Chapter 9 – Miss. Matchmaker
~Alyssa~
Yesterday’s event made me feel a little like Cinderella.
The prince of my dreams had confessed to me, my step-sibling was suddenly nice to me, and for once, the nerdy girl was pretty.
Well, I’ve decided to throw that Cinderella life behind and better jump back to reality. I dreaded seeing Cole’s face; it made me feel so remorseful. I dreaded to know whether the rumor that Jeremy and I were dating had spread like wildfire in school. And I dreaded to look at myself in the mirror.
Yep. I’m definitely not Cinderella. Positive. Welcome back to life Alyssa. The headache from yesterday never really did subside, and looking at the total nerd I am in the mirror only made it worse. And it definitely wasn’t a hangover.
Putting on my glasses, I quickly changed out of my oversized shirt to something more decent, rushed out of the room and somehow ended up in front of Cole’s door.
You can do it Alyssa. Just knock on the door, and apologize. Simple.
I took a deep breath. Well, here goes nothing—
“Looking for me, my dear?” Cole leaned against the porch door, spinning the house keys in one finger.
My breath hitched in my throat, and my heart almost leaped out of my mouth. Oh gosh, I wasn’t expecting that! Well, at least he did not hold a grudge about yesterday’s incident. Or did he?
I smiled a grateful grin and dashed out of the house to pace up with him.
“Are you sure that was you yesterday? Cause this…” He scanned my body from top to toe. “—doesn’t a teeny bit resemble that hot babe yesterday.”
Yep, Cole’s back. The annoying Cole.
I shove a fist in front of his face, threatening him to keep his mouth shut. I knew I looked really different, but hey! He didn’t have to remind me. That meanie! On the other hand, makeup really does wonders, it’s shocked me a little to hear Cole calling me a “hot babe”. A light shade of red immediately crept up my cheeks.
Luckily for me, I don’t think I heard anyone whispering about Jeremy and me, thank god. But, I did manage to see something that aroused my interest.
While Cole and I were bickering and making our way into class, Isabella caught up with us and gently placed her cold and clammy hands on each of our shoulders, scaring the shit out of us. We jumped and a light shriek came out from my mouth.
“Hey! How’re you guys doing?” She beamed in a bubbly tone.
Still clasping onto my heart, I smiled and warned in a lighthearted tone. “Well, I’m still a little traumatized because someone just frightened the hell out of me. Don’t ever do that again!”
