Flashback:
“Don’t open the door Jayden!” I warned, pushing myself away from the bed but it was too late.
“Who are you?” I heard Jayden ask in his cute high-pitched tone that he was trying to “adultify”. Yes, adultify, a word Seth and I made up when Jayden was using his adult voice, or whatever he calls it. It was just an octave lower than his normal voice.
“Who are you?” I heard a faintly familiar low voice parrot back.
“Jay Jay.” Jayden replied proudly.
“Um…okay…Can I speak to Alyssa?” The voice drifted into my ears.
I snapped out of my daze and stomped to the corridor. “Jay, how many times have I told you not to open the door to strangers?” I didn’t even spare the person at the door a look as I bent over to pick Jayden up. “And no, if you’re looking for Matthew’s girlfriend, you’ve found the wrong person—“
I looked up, and I gasped, finding myself staring straight into those navy blue eyes.
~*~*~
~Alyssa~
I blinked continuously at that familiar yet at the same time so foreign face. My mouth went slightly agape and it became dry. I tried to form some words but I couldn’t find my voice back.
Jayden wriggled away from my loose grasp on him as he jumped down from my arms.
The person blinked back, and we just stood there in silence, searching each other’s eyes. How long had I not seen these eyes? How long had I not smelt this scent? How long had I not seen this face?
The faint water drizzle from the shower stopped as I heard Seth plod out of the bathroom.
“Al, who is it?” Seth yelled from across the hallway, his wet footsteps getting louder and louder.
Immediately, I broke eye contact with the person and spun around to holler back. “Nobody, Seth!” Wait, what the hell am I saying? There IS somebody at the door! Ugh, I hate the slow processing of my mind. I should really think before I speak.
The person narrowed his eyes and shot me a puzzled look. “Who’s…Seth?” His voice sounded cold and hard, not warm and welcoming like before.
I coughed uncomfortably, avoiding his serious gaze that was burning through my skull. I swallowed the lump in my throat and managed to make out an “Uhhhh…”
Just then, I felt an arm snake round my neck as Seth appeared beside me. Gosh, underdressed much? All he had on was a towel wrapped around his hips.
“Seth!” I cried out, pushing him away as a blush blossomed on my cheeks and I looked away. Shielding my eyes, I forced out my words through gritted teeth. “Put on some clothes, please.”
Seth didn’t budge, but the grin on his face grew wider. He just loved making fun of me, especially when he knew my soft spot was a) Cole, and b) Abs. He raised an eyebrow at the person at the door. “You are?”
The person countered back harshly. “No, you tell me who you are first.”
I opened my mouth to explain. “Seth’s my—“
“—boyfriend. I’m Al’s boyfriend. Yes.” A cheeky smile played on Seth’s lips as he cut me off mid-sentence.
My eyes widened in surprise as I tried to protest, but Seth had once again cut in before I could speak. Why the hell was Seth lying? This isn’t the time for games!
