I must've been a fool to love you so hard for so long,

So much stronger than before,

But so much harder to move on.

....

After the very strange first period, the rest of my classes went smoothly. The fact that I had Louis Tomlinson in my third period American History class made things a little...strange. Thankfully, he said three rows up and two desks over, and didn't even acknowledge I was there. It was easier that way for the both of us.

After profusely apologizing for humiliating myself at Bree's party, I had been flirtatiously texting Josh all day. Unfortunately, we didn't have the same lunch either, so I couldn't see him. But even the way he texted was cute - You're already my favourite person here. xx I had to bite my lip to keep from squealing out loud.

"Ali!" I could hear Regina's voice over nearly everyone in the cafeteria. She smacked into me, throwing her arms around my shoulders. "Hey! Look at you - why are you so happy? It's the first day back in hell - I mean high school."

I laughed. "Oh, I'm just talking to this guy..."

"Oh." Regina blinked. I caught the weird look on her face. "Really? Anyone I know?"

"Um...have you met the new English exchange student?"

"There's an English exchange student?" she breathed. "Is he hot? Tell me."

I blushed, looking down at my phone as it bleeped again. The back of your head is adorable. x

My head snapped from my phone, and I whirled around. Josh was standing there, leaning against a pole.

"Hi!" I hurried over to him, hugging him tightly. Regina was standing behind me, and she didn't look that impressed. I just knew what she was doing - comparing Josh to my...ex. I glared at her. "Reg, this is Josh. Josh, meet Regina."

"Hello, darling." He held out his hand, and she lifted a brow, shaking it.

"'Sup," she mumbled. "Ah...Ali, I gotta go. Louis is texting me. Nice to meet you, ol' chap." She skipped away, her blond hair swaying behind her.

Josh laughed, turning to me. "She's full of life, isn't she?"

"You have no idea." I looked at him. "What are you doing here? thought you didn't have this lunch?"

He lifted a hall pass shaped like a tree. "Snuck out of Environmental Science...to come see you." He lowered his head, biting his lip nervously.

My heart warmed, and I couldn't stop the stupid grin spreading across my face. "Really?" I said softly.

"Uh...yeah. Texting you is fun."

I tucked my hair behind my ear, flushing. As I stared up at Josh, I realized how upset I had to be that he didn't have any classes with me. "So...want to hang out with me after school?" I blurted out. "I think it's the least I could do for you after, well...Bree's party."

Josh grinned. "Once again, gorgeous, you don't have to apologize. But I'm not refusing an afternoon with you. Want to meet me...uh..." He trailed off, frowning.

"We can just meet in front of the school," I suggested. "You can follow my car. I know this really awesome place for cinnamon buns."

Josh opened his mouth to respond, but then winced apologetically. "Ah...I rode with Liam to school today. Maybe we can ride together, then?"
