Straight off the plane to a new hotel,

Just touched down, you could never tell.

A big house party with a crowded kitchen,

People talk, "shh", but we don't listen.

- "Midnight Memories", One Direction

....

"Morning, Tommo speaking!"

"Hey, Louis," I said quietly into the receiver.

"Well, hey there, sunshine!" he called. I pictured him smiling ear to ear, showing all of his teeth and his eyes crinkling in the corners. If anyone was sunshine, it'd be Louis Tomlinson. "How are you?"

"I..."

"Wait. Never mind. Bad question." Louis sighed. "Are you doing okay?"

"I've been better."

He sighed again.

"Harry came over last night..."

"Did he?" I could hear Louis sniffing. "Well, how did that go?"

Should I bring it up? Well, Louis knows him more than anyone in the universe... "He, um, got a little emotional."

Louis was quiet for a minute. "Hey. You wanna hang out? Let's grab breakfast in thirty. Our usual spot, remember? I need that peppermint mocha. Then, I'm taking you out shopping."

"Shopping?" I asked. "I, uh, I don't have much money."

"Did I say you need money? No, ma'am. I'm treating you, because you deserve it. Now get dressed, cutie. No more arguing."

I smiled, shaking my head. "Okay, Louis. Fine."

"Love you." He made a kissing noise into the phone.

"Love you too," I started to say back, but he'd already hung up.

My phone stayed silent for the next half hour as I got dressed and drove down to Susan's. Half of me wanted to immediately call Harry just to hear the husky voice I was so deeply in love with, and the other half of me was so sick and tired of going in circles with this boy. Yes, I missed him, but the looming thought of what he'd done trumped a lot of those feelings.

When I pulled up to Susan's, I noticed Louis' familiar Honda parked along the curb. Smiling a little to myself, I got out of my car and hurried inside to escape the freezing November cold.

"Ali! Over here!" called Louis loudly, waving his arms over his head. He was in his usual denim jacket with a hooded fleece underneath, and skinny jeans. He was also in a Ramones shirt that clearly belonged to Harry. His spiky hair was perfectly styled, swooping out of his black beanie. He was smiling at me, his peppermint mocha latte already in front of him.

"I got you one," he was saying when I sat down across from him. "And a cinnamon bun."

I grinned a little, taking a small sip from the warm cup.

Louis looked concerned, leaning closer over the table. "You...you don't look so good, babe."

My smile slipped from my face. "I, uh, I honestly could be better."

He took my hand. "I know, being cheated on is the worst feeling," he said quietly.

I didn't respond after a moment. "I knew he had something for Emma."

"He told me that Emma was holding something of his hostage. To well, get him to..."

"You don't have to finish," I whispered.
