An audition.

Quite a while after Mike watched me getting panicked and paranoid, Mrs. Farrow walks into the hall rushing us to be ready. “Come on everybody. Get to your positions. Chop, chop.” Everyone put their I-know-nothing face at each other. Then, Mrs. Farrow remembers that she hasn’t told us anything about what’s going to happen today. “Owh, sorry everyone, blame it on me. Hmm, actually I called five of you here to help me out for an audition that’s going to be carried out less than 10 minutes from now. I need Mike and Lynda to judge with me. Christina, you’ll be showing some steps-and I would love if you show the most complicated ones cause that’ll make our work easier- and you’ll also be a jury.” Owh, great. What was all the paranoia just now for? Then Mrs. Farrow points at the two girls behind us. “Stephanie and Jamie, both of you are going to help me with all their details and give them some guidance about what to do, where to go, when to approach and announce the results. And if they were chosen, please tell them every necessary information they should know as an example when is our meeting, who’s our president etcetera. So now everyone knew just what to do, we can start this audition.”

Mike shook his head, looking rather regret. “She called us here and wasted my most precious and unaffordable sleeping time just to search for a new member? Okay, this is getting ridiculous. Why did I choose this club at the first place even? Because my stupid manager…” Thenhis face changes from bored to a little panicked. “What did you say just now Mike? Your manager?” “Uh, no, what I meant is my management file. Do you have any idea where it is?I’ve been looking for it all day long. Hey, come on, Mrs. Farrow is waiting for us.” Mike pushes my back towards the spot where Mrs. Farrow has set for all of us. There’s only four chairs, which means obviously that’s our place. I think most of our activities today make me feel that Mike is a close friend of mine.

“Come on, take your seats, we’re going to start now.” I nearly say “Thanks Mrs. Farrow for burdening me.” but my attempt fails cause suddenly Mike pulls my hand to make me sit on a chair next to me. Then he say, “Don’t you ever wish to say that to Mrs. Farrow. It’s not nice to say that to a teacher that’s going to retire in another two or three years from now.” Mike gives me an innocent look and I gave him a Do-you-want-to-get-smacked?lookin return. I push the chair some inches away from Mike’s chair-as it was too close, there is not even a gap. Then I seat on the chair, controlling my posture-okay, this is looking like one of those practice classes that Mia in The Princess Diaries get when she will be crown as a princess. “Okay Mike, what are you? You said you’re a stalker. And now you’re a witch or something that can read people minds.I’ll just take this in. I’ll have to make tons of sweats roll out of my skin and you’re going to seat here this whole audition to only say yes or no? This is so not fair.” Mike shots me a Haha-do-I-care?look and say, “Hey, chill Christina.Come on, I’m enjoying this moment. Just come along with Mrs. Farrow planning. We can do nothing, right? Even if you held a crowd of mad people shouting against her, she won’t change her mind.” Huh? That was, weird. Since when does this dude knows about discipline? “Mike, you’re the first man that nags in my life. Are you done? I’ll just go with this but I’ll surely kill Mrs. Farrow if injustice like this ever happens again. I’m serious about this.” I roll my eyes at Mike and try to focus on what Mrs. Farrow is saying, more to babbling.

Blah…Blah…Blah… Important competition…Talented…Born with skills… Another blah…I don’t know what annoys me the most right now, the fact that Mrs. Farrow is babbling superbly professional in an awkward way and obviously acting everything she is saying, or the fact that Mike is a complete, what to say, jerk? He’s acting all nice and all I can see on his face is he’s trying to be a teacher’s pet. “Hey, psst, Mike!” Mike turns his concentration to me after he gives a little nod to what Mrs. Farrow is talking about and whisper back to me, “What? I’m trying to concentrate here.” “Come on, let’s get out of here for some minutes. She’ll be babbling like this for another thirty minutes. Come on.” I pull one of Mike’s arms and make him stand on his feet. Mrs.Farrow stops talking and look straight at us. “Is there any problem you have there, Christina and Michael?” “Hmm, no Mrs. Farrow, it’s just that I really need to go to the ladies and may I bring Mike, I mean Michael to accompany me?” Everyone starts laughing cause no one had ever make an excuse to go to opposite gender’s bathroom to get out of a boring meeting before in this school. Haha that serves you right Mike. I love to make fun of him. “Okay, that is a little strange, but don’t be long, we’ll need both of you some minutes from now.”

Mike and I walk in a normal way till we reach the hallway and both of us burst out in laughter. “Mike, you’re such a jerk! You want to be a teacher’s pet in there? You’re the worst actor I’ve ever seen in my whole life!” Then I change my voice to an old lady’s voice, which is obviously how Mrs. Farrow sounds. “Is there any problem you have there, Michael? I don’t even know your name is Michael!” We laugh aloud again and continue walking. “Tina, yeah, and going to the ladies? Isn’t there any other logical excuse you can think of? So what are we seriously going to do now?” “Maybe we’ll just wander around school or go to the ladies. Okay,I’m kidding. We’ll just do anything that we can for the next 30 minutes.” “Let’s go grab some cappuccinos. There’s a new Starbucks Café some blocks from our school.” Uh, Mike is just new here and he knew about Starbucks café earlier than I do? “Mike, seriously, do you know about nearly everything? But how are we gonna get there?” Then Mike shakes his car keys trying to boast about it. “Do you forget about this Tina?” “Yeah, stop bragging or that key will end up being flushed in a toilet bowl.”
