Funny moments.
I just sit and watch the whole thing and now the situation gets upside down. Just now I complain to Mike that there’ll be tons of sweat rolling on my skin while Mike says yes or no but now I’m the one who’s doing nothing while Mike is showing the steps. Actually, he’s an amazing dancer. He dances as if he’s one of the ‘So You Think You Can Dance’ finalists. After the audition finished, we’ve got some new dancers and we’ve polished some new talents. After everyone excuse home, the one who’s left here is only me and Mike. “Tina, bout just now, I’m sorry but I don’t know you’ll be like that just by drinking coffee.” Mike staresat the floor and I know he’s filled with guilt, I can read it on his face. “No, you’re not wrong in this at all. Believe me. Come on, don’t be sad.” I roughly mess his hair with my hands, trying to make some joke. “Okay now, who’s gonna pick you up?” “My Mom. But she said that she’ll be kinda late” “Nevermind, I’ll sent you home then. Text your mom.” “No, I don’t want to ride home with you today. And there is a full stop there.” “Okay, if you insisted of staying, I’ll accompany you till your Mom is here. And there’s also a full stop there. Come, let’s go somewhere else. Maybe wait at a bench out there.
Mike and I walk to the bench and park our bags on the grass. It’s 4.30pm now and most people are going to have their supper soon. “You know what Mike. Sometimes I think people nowadays don’t always do what we used to experience when we’re young. I mean for example kids. Now, no one watches those silly, cute and adventurous cartoons or play with sand, water, or anything anymore. Now, even a three years old kid knows how to handle Ipad 3! I mean that they’re so advanced. I’m a bit jealous, yeah, but I missed those cartoons.” “What makes you have that in mind?” “Nothing. It’s just suddenly there.” “I love those times too. You know what I used to watch?” “What do you watch? This is special now to know our love to brag Mike still loves his old cartoons on the tv.” “I know that you still keep your Barbie in your closet so yeah, we’re still the same.”
After Mike tells me all about cartoons and most of our favourite cartoons are the same, I mean like the common ones for example Sesame Street, Bob The Builder and even Make Way For Noddy! We sing together the Make Way ForNoddy song and laugh. We talk about Noddy, his Grandpa, the thieves, the policeman, and everything actually. Then the episodes we love in Barney’s And Friends. Mike says that he’ll always wake up early just to watch a new episode of Make Way For Noddy and sometimes he even stay till midnight just to watch episodes he had missed. It’s like I’m six, again. All we do is laugh and laugh till my mom text me that she’ll be here in another less than five. “Owh, Mike, my Mom just texted me that she’ll be here in less than five minutes so I guess I got to excuse myself then. And you still hadn’t told me what you want. Make it fast.” “I’ve got two and that’s all I need. As the prize, I want you to hang out with me everyday and, second, I’ll give you a ride to school and home. And both will be on from tomorrow till Lynda’s birthday, and that will be for another six. In addition, I am not going to ask you is that alright?Cause it’s permanent.” “What? SIX month? That’s long! There are FIVE things you can ask from me and you’re only asking two but it is so, so, I don’t know why I don’t want it but alright. And how do you know about Lynda’s birthday? Nevermind, okay then, my mom is here, and a deal is a deal. See you tomorrow.”“Do you mean, pick me up tomorrow?”Urghh!
In the car back home, I remember everything I’ve done with Mike today and sigh. It’s been a long great and fun day. Then I didn’t realize Mom was staring at me all the time. She stops at a junction when the traffic light strikes red and says, “Hey, what’s with that long beautiful smile of yours. Tell me who this guy is.” “Mom, how do you even know he’s a guy?” “I’ve read in one of the magazine”-her magazines, again-“And it says that a woman will only smile widely when she remembers a man close to her. For example her father, brother, friend, etcetera. So tell me bout him.” “Okay, he’s name is Mike. He loves to boast around, but he’s not mean. He brags because that is one of his personalities, not to make others feel bad. He loves to win. He loves himself. He can easily attract someone to know bout him. It seems that everyone in school knows him. He loves to challenge me. And sometimes, even annoys me. But I’ll feel really lonely if he’s not there to make me angry. So that is how he is.” Then mom slowly pushes the gas as the traffic turns green and smile at me. “So, why I’ve never heard or saw him before?”“Owh, bout that, actually I just met him yesterday.” “What? Yesterday? But you just explain about him like you guys have known for ages!” I look out the window and watch a little girl walking with a big lollipop in her hands. Oh my, she’s so cute. I just smile and wave at her then I answer mom. “That’s what makes him so special then, right?” “Yes maybe.”
…
I woke up this morning because Mike texted to me that he’ll pick me up at 7.45am and he texted me that at about 6am. 6am!I’ve never woke up this early. I’m going to make sure he’ll be dead when I meet him later. I bath and dress up in a pair of jeans and a t-shirt. Then I flip through the History textbook waiting for 7.45am. At about 7.15am, I can’t remember what I’ve read before this page so I stop reading and call Mike. It takes a while for him to answer. “Hey Tina, did you get my message?” “Yup.” “Then why are you calling me?” “Firstly, thanks for your awakening message at SIX in the morning cause I can’t continue to sleep after that. Secondly, if you’re not doing anything, can you pick me up now?” “What? Now?Owh, okay. Cause I’m not doing anything now and I’m waiting for 7.45 too. Just wait for about five minutes I’ll be there.”
Five minutes felt like five years then Mike arrives. I’ve told mom about the bet and she was quite shocked Mike can make me drink coffee. But she say that it’s okay. I’ve made a deal and Mike have a legal license so there’s nothing wrong there. As my phone rings I know just who’s calling cause Mike’s car is honking over and over again. Some of my neighbours are yelling from their bedroom windows asking him to shut up. Some of them use bad words, mock him. Okay this is not a very pleasant morning. How I just want to shout to him right now. I kiss mom on her cheek and run towards the door in hurry cause I know he’ll never stop honking if he doesn’t see my silhouette in another 1 minute. I walk to his car and then he stops honking. My neighbor are cursing us-my mom, Mike and me- and Mike rolled his car windows down. “Christina Anderson, at last! What took you so long?” I ignore whatever his saying right now and slammed my body into the passenger’s seat. When he rolls the car window up, I blurt out all the anger I’ve been feeling since he honks his damn car.
“You idiot, stupid, moron! Why can’t you just call and wait for a minute?! It’s not that hard!” All the words come trembling out of my mouth in just some seconds but this seems not to make him shocked or anything. He’s whistling now, matching the rhythm of a song that was playing since I entered the car. “Great, now you’re ignoring me. My neighbours hate me now. Thank you, Mr. Ross. Do you think this is funny?” “What do you think, Tina? Is it funny?” Mike raises his eyebrows and I just realized that was quite fun-making my neighbours pissed off. I’ve always wanted to do that, not because I hate them but it’s just funny to annoy them. I look at Mike as he stares at me with his sarcastic smile. “What’s with that stare? I’ll spoon out your eye balls if you won’t stop doing that face right now.” Then both of burst into laughter and I just can’t help it. He’s stupid and annoying at one time and some seconds after that he’s making me laughing the hell out! Then when we’re recovering from that loud laugh, I ask Mike, “So now what are we gonna do? School starts in another half an hour.” “I don’t know. Let’s go to some kind of restaurant. I haven’t eaten anything. Let’s just say that I’m more to like starving now.” I roll my eyes at him and sigh. “Why didn’t you eat anything just now. You’re a complete burden! I’m serious bout this.” Mike look at me with a sad face and smile ‘cutely’. I can’t help but my furious face fades as I smile. “Stop doing those not-cute-at-all faces to me. Okay, just stop anywhere you want to.” He turns his head to smile and say, “That’s the answer I’m waiting for.” “I can’t imagine hanging out with you for another six months! Urghh.”
