Another confession but this time, I’m not the one who supposed to confess.
“Ok, I’ll tell you the truth. What you’ve just said is true. This is all Ed’s planning.” So now mom is blaming her ‘friend’? I know where this is going. “So, mom, I’m not furious because you’re having a date…” “It’s not a date. It’s a ‘watching movie’ session.” Mom loves to argue about small matters. “Mom, you’re denying that ‘watching love movie’ session a date? The Edge of the Garden is a fitting movie for the ones who just fall in love.I’m not that dumb. Ok. Just continue with your explanation.” Mom’s face is looking nervous right now. “Ed is just my normal friend. I’m serious about this. Just a best friend maybe, or a special friend, or a…”
“Mom, you don’t have to describe him in details. And for your information, you’re blushing right now. Mom, I’ve never even blame you or scold you or anything to you if you wanna have a friend, nor a lover. But, I only wants you to never forget me. Never ever, neglect me again. Can you promise me that? You’re the only person I’ve love the most ever since dad died. And you’re the only one that can give me the love that I needed exactly at this point of my life when everything is so chaotic.” I can feel my eyes burning, waiting to wet my cheek with tears. “Owh, Christina. I promise you I’ll never neglect you again and you will always be my priority and also the person I love the most in this world, forever.” My mom throws a hug to me and we wipe our tears. “So mom, won’t you introduce me to that guy, Ed. And by the way, just now a friend of mine rings the bell, didn’t you hear it?” “Uh, actually we did hear it but we thought it was the oven ringing. I think we should change the bell sound.”
Both of us, Mom and I, walked to the living room laughing about how mom gets too paranoid just now and Ed is starring at us as if we just had a completely weird and stupid mom-daughter conversation. I can’t blame him for that cause we really look like complete idiots right now. Mom excused herself to the kitchen to prepare for dinner- which I know she’s trying to set me up with Ed cause she didn’t know how to cook. Probably she’ll just order pizza or something.- When mom makes her way to the kitchen I can see Ed’s face saying “Don’t live me alone with this freak!”. So all of a sudden, I tried to be nice and talkative-which I can say more to busybody.-
“Ed, you’re my mom’s officemate then.” That is all I can say-stupid-“Yeah. I’m working at the same department as your Mom’s-Top of The World Magazine for financial advice.” I bet he’s a nerd. I felt like laughing aloud right now but that’s rude. I can just say this from the way he talks.“Owh. Maybe one day I’ll get my own segment on some popular magazines too.” God, I’m crossing my fingers, please, please, I beg to you, don’t let my Mom fall in love with a nerd. “Owh, what segment would you love to cooperate with then? Maybe I can explain about it.” Cool, he’s not a nerd. “I’m interested with the personal segments. You know, like encouraging people to shine their selves with secret talents they have kept their whole life. Maybe share some stories. Things like that.” He thinks about what I’ve just said and search for something in his wallet. Maybe he is thinking about giving me some money to persuade Mom to stop stalking on us from the kitchen. Then he passes me a card that says,
Mrs. BrandaPleaston
What Are You? Department

What Are You department? Isn’t that the segment I’ll always read every week? Ed is suggesting me to join this part of their company. Oh. My. God. He is a completely normal, not nerd at all, coolest and awesomest dude I’ve ever met. “Hmm, Christina, why don’t you just call that lady, Mrs. Branda if you’re free or bored of school life? You can even call her on your summer holidays. That might help living up your life with some Christmas lights.” Wait, that’s our phrase. That’s Mom’s and my phrase, Christmas lights-which means some cheerful things- Now he is using that phrase too? Is that phrase acceptable in any idioms dictionary? I guess mom told him so much, he’s just so unexpected. Maybe that is why Mom likes him.
