The Betrayal

Johnathan arrived at the hospital at eleven forty-five to pick up Angela when his phone rang.

"Detective Sanchez."

"You really try to sound very important don't you?"

"Good morning Jheri!"

"How are you darling?" She chuckled. "I'm calling you back like I said I would. I've already left a spot open at the shelter but as of now I can set her up at one of our properties until then!"

"You rock girl!"

"I know. Bout time you notice." They both laughed.

"Can you just put any name in the system just for safety precaution? I don't want her husband finding out anything or where she and the children are located."

"Uhmm sir I know what I'm doing, you can check here in under Sister's Shelter and I'll be taking care of their meals. Just be sure she doesn't order the entire menu!"

"Yes, dear!"

By the time I hang up a nurse is bringing her around the corner in a wheelchair. She is smiling from ear to ear once she sees me.

"All set and ready to go?" I asked

"Yes, I am. Where are my children?"

"They will join you later. I've already made arrangements. I'm going to take you to your location and I will have another member bring your children by."

"Why are you being so nice to me?"

"It's just who I am. It's my job."

I put her in my car and we head to the hotel. I go to the desk and check her in and then I ask can we enter from the back since she's in witness protection. I park around back and we used the service elevator to go up. Once we get in the room I see that it's a two-bedroom suite. One room for the children and hers was directly across. It was just separated by a door. I phoned for them to bring her children in an hour. Just enough time for her to get relaxed. I see her taking it all in and then she began to cry.

"Is everything ok Angela?"

"I've never seen anything so fancy before! Are you sure this is the right room?"

"Yes. I know someone who works here, so they're going to help you from here on out to get your life back together.

"How can I ever thank you!?"

"Just promise me that you won't go back. Promise me that you will live for you and your children."

She steps closer towards me and looks me in my eyes. 

"You have my word. You're the first man to ever show me how it feels when someone cares. For seven years I have been a prisoner in my own home. I won't let you down!"

"I don't understand how someone could do that to you as beautiful as you are," I say as I wiped the tears from her eyes. She grabs my hand and embrace my touch and then we began kissing. I could tell she finally felt safe. Before I knew it we were making love and it felt amazing. Afterward, she drifted off to sleep and I got dressed and let her sleep. I got in my car and just sat there thinking to myself. What have I just done? How could I cheat on my wife? What was I thinking? I call in for her children and I just drive around with my head spinning. I go into a daze when my phone rings.....

"Detective Sanchez."

"Hey babes."

My heart is racing but I play it cool. "Sup sweetie?"

"Just calling to see how your day was going and ask you to drop by the market on your way home. I can text you the list.

" Okay, and so far so good. The streets are quiet so far. I dropped off that lady I was telling you about and that's about all. I should be home early tonight."

"That's a good thing for the both of us because I miss my husband."

"Okay baby see you then."

My heart was racing and I felt a knot in my throat. How do I go home and look my wife in the eye knowing what I just did? I decided to go back to the office first to grab the files that she will need for the case, and a trip to the market will give me a chance to think.  I look down at my phone and I see she texted me the grocery list. That would definitely help to clear my mind.

I probably stayed at the office for a few hours when I decided to leave. I headed to the store and started walking around when my phone rang.

"Sanchez."

"Where did you go?" It was Angela.

"Hi. I had to leave. Are you ok?"

"Yes, I am what about you?"

"Uhmm yea just gotta pick up a few things before heading home. Did your children make it?"

"Yes and I've never been happier. Will, I ever see you again?" I can tell she's sounded concerned.

"I might try to stop by tomorrow but not quite sure. Depends on how my day goes."

"Okay. And thank you once again."

"Just try to relax," I say to her before I hung up.

I head to the check out counter and then home.

"Hey, babes you're home. Did you remember to get everything? "

"Yes, dear I gotcha."

"She kisses me and welcomes me home."

"So how was your day and did you bring the files because I have to head to trial in a week.

"Yea but I left it in the car. I'll be right back." Johnathan, you are playing with fire I hear my subconscious say to me. I just try to block the whole thing out of my head. I grab the files and head back inside the house.

"Babes I'm going to take a shower before I join you for dinner."

"Are you okay? You seem dazed."

"Just a lot on my mind."

"Okay, I'll see you shortly. I love you."

"Love you too." I wanted to throw up right after I said it. Love doesn't hurt and I knew that if Jessica found out she would be devastated. I headed upstairs to take a shower. That's just what I need to clear my mind because I had one heart with two women in it but only one belonged there. I stepped out and dried off and I was greeted by my beautiful wife who was standing there.

"So are you going to tell me what's wrong?"

"I'm honestly just tired. It's been a long day."

"No secrets remember Detective!"

"No secrets DA Sanchez." I smile.

"Dinner's ready!"

"Shall I get dressed or just come as I am?" We both laughed.

"Use your best judgment."

I continue to dry off when Jessica turns around to walk out of our bedroom. My head starts to hurt. Get it together Johnathan I say to myself. What has happened, and there's no erasing it. Just move on and learn from it. Just don't let it happen again. But it did. I continued to see Angela for about a year. It was like some uncontrollable force that I had no control over. It became so natural to have two lives. God knows I love Jessica with every fiber of my being, but I was drawn to Angela for whatever reason. I couldn't understand how someone so beautiful couldn't have the love that she deserved and I felt that since I found her broken that it was my duty to put her back whole but I was shattering both women's hearts. I was going to destroy one forever and damage one heart that was already broken.

****Yes, yes, yes I already know what you're thinking, and I apologize but it had to happen to get into the storyline.
