I knew something was wrong with my husband but I couldn't put my finger on it. I couldn't allow that to bother me at this time because the trial is tomorrow and I was in the office early. I had to get over to the detention center to speak with Jamaal Blake and Corey Stitches Jenkins to see if there was anything else they wanted to say before tomorrow's hearing. I was going for second-degree murder, but since I didn't have the murder weapon I had to go with the lesser charge of manslaughter, but at least they would be off the streets for the next fifteen years.
I pulled up to the prison and I head upstairs. I'm greeting by Alex Jennings the attorney for J.B and Stitches.
"Hi DA Sanchez. Glad you could make it."
"I don't have time for this. Are your clients ready to talk now?"
"Sure they are."
"Then let's do this."
"They're both in the waiting area when I walked in.
"Well if it isn't sexy eyes. Glad you could stop by my house this morning. " J.B said with a smile while Stitches just sat there.
"I don't have time for games. Where is the murder weapon?"
"You know you keep asking us that and the answer will always be the same. I didn't commit no murder so therefore I don't know what weapon you speak of."
"Alex I didn't come down here for this!"
Stitches just sit there and smile.
"What the hell is so funny?"
"No weapon.....no case," he says with a vicious smile.
I get up to walk away and I think to myself because he is so true. The best I could do was bring up how ruthless the gang was and discredit their character. On my way back to the office I'm pissed off because I'm going to catch hell keeping this case together. I take out my cell to call Jonathan but I got his voice mail which was odd because he always answers his cell. I decided on my way to the office that I would drive by the precinct. I go into the building and I'm greeted by everyone as usual when I come by. I walk over to Captain's office and I ask him where was Jonathan. The only thing he said was Jonathan told him he had to go take care of something but that was an hour ago. He said he was coming back because they were closing in on the 5th Street case which I had coming up.
"Ok well, when he comes back tell him to call me."
"You got it!"
I head back to the office and my mind is racing. What was going on with him? His cell going to voicemail and him leaving work like that is totally out of character for him. I had that feeling that I hate in the pit of my stomach that confirmed that something wasn't right. I get back to the office and Harmony is on a call but she hangs up once she sees me.
"Hey, girl. Jonathan called and said he would be late.
"Did he really!"
"Okay, that didn't sound good. What's going on?"
"I'm not sure just yet but it better not be what I think it is."
"Which is?"
"I'm not sure yet Harmony but I just have this bad feeling."
I go into my office and go through my messages and my emails. Another anonymous email comes up. I click on it and it reads.
"Hello, beautiful,
Instead of worrying about me how about you worry about what your husband has been doing. He can't save you if he's not around.
See you soon.
