About six days passed after the triplets arrived in Gravity Rises. They spent most of their time doing their own thing wether it be watching television or just talking to each other.
That was until Ford came to them with a proposition.
"Kids, since I'm a tad short staffed, would you mind helping around the Museum?" Ford asked.
"Us? Help around the Mystery Museum?" Wally asked.
"I dunno..." Mabel muttered.
"I just thought it would give you kids something to do. I-if you want to that is." Ford said.
The three kids looked at each other and nodded, "Ten bucks a week sound fair to you Grunkle Ford?" Wally asked.
Ford grinned, "Deal."
So, that's what they were currently doing. Dipper and Wally were sweeping the floors, Mabel was restocking the shelves.
Meanwhile, Robbie Corduroy was manning the register, helping customers purchase whatever they wanted to buy. Then the handyman/tour guide Soos Ramirez was leading a group of awestruck tourists through the Mystery Museum, explaining every display that they came across.Wally learned a few days earlier that the displays that people enjoyed so much were fake. He could still hear his uncle's words echo through his mind.
"The displays...are fake. I've realized that people prefer the fantasy of the supernatural other than what's really out there."
Wally couldn't quite wrap his head around the last part though. 'Really out there? What was he talking about?' He asked.
"Wally look out!"
Wally was snapped out of his thoughts when he saw saw a snow globe ready to crash on his head. In one fluid motion, he caught it right before it hit the ground.
"Whoa, nice reflexes dude." Robbie commented.
Wally chuckled as Mabel climbed down the ladder, "I'm so sorry Wally, are you all right?" Mabel asked.
"Fine." The boy gave the snow globe back to his sister, "You just gotta be a little more careful." Wally said.
Then, Ford came in the room with an armful of wooden signs. "All right, who's gonna nail up these signs?" he asked.
"Not me." Wally said.
"Not it." Mabel said.
"I guess that leaves you Dipper." Ford said as he dropped the signs in the boy's arms.
"Grunkle Ford there's something about those woods. I always feel like something's watching me." Dipper said.
"The only thing that's most likely watching you is a frozen rabbit, now off you go." Ford said as he pushed the boy out the door.
Dipper huffed and trudged through the snow. He was worried about what my try and gobble him up, but he was entranced by the snow.
The cool white powder was untouched by nature and glistened in the noon sunlight.
Dipper hammered up a few signs while keeping conversation with himself, "It's just a forest Dipper, what's gonna jump out and get you?" He scoffed.
He lined up another nail and whacked it on with the hammer. He recoiled for the sound, making him drop the signs with a startled yelp.
"Weird..." Dipper muttered. He was going to chart it off as his imagination, but when he hit it a second time, it made the same sound.
The tree was made out of metal!
Dipper knocked on it a few times and found that it must've been a door or something. One way or another, he pried it open, then a cloud of dust burst forward making him cough.
At least his suspicions were correct.
His heart was racing in his chest. What was in there? What person would hide something in a tree? A metal one at that.
Then Dipper bravely stuck his hand inside. Hopefully there wasn't some poisonous creature living in a dark place like this. Luckily, nothing was there except for what felt like a button.
Without knowing, he pressed it and heard another noise behind him. Dipper turned around and saw a hole opening up a few yards from where he was standing. He quickly rushed over to it and peered inside.
There was a book.
One old book.
Dipper bent down to pick it up and brushed off the layer of dirt and grime. There was nothing but a simple engraving of a hand on the maroon colored cover with bold number three on the palm. It's gilded edges allowed the bright sunlight to show through the rough cover.
He looked around to make sure no one was watching before sitting down and opening the book carefully.
It's hard to believe that it's been almost six years since I discovered the strange and wondrous of Gravity Rises, Oregon.
"Dipper what have you found?" Dipper asked as he flipped through the book until he landed on another page and written in bold was "TRUST NO ONE"
"Unfortunately," Dipper read "my suspicions have been correct from the start. I am being watched. It is imperative that I hide my journals before he finds them. To anyone who finds this, no matter what you think, in Gravity Rises, there is no one you can trust."
Dipper swallowed hard as the last sentence echoed through his head, 'No one you can trust...?' He thought.
As he closed the book he spotted the haunting image on the cover.
A six fingered hand.
Oh boy...nothing in this place was as it seemed.
