That afternoon, I went to see the King in his library and told the same lie. Lying was never hard, but guilt tempted me to tell him at times. What if a dragon took my family? Am I really capable of forgiving a beast? And Legolas, I saw retaliation in his piercing gray eyes. He wouldn't be very happy to know I've just befriended a dragon, not Miraak, not any of its kind.

The King sent guards to inspect the cave, but said no danger laid within, of course there wasn't, the danger has flown. He asked me to resume the task and to get back with answers. Mr. Briggens will look after me, he said, but I don't think I will ever need someone elses help again, nor a raven.

Just before dusk, I went to return the servant's dress I borrowed, Armien said Legolas scolded her for letting me dress myself like a servant. Poor girl, it wasn't her fault.

Armien and the girls were cleaning the cellar when I arrived. I wanted to stay and extend a hand but I had something far more important to do. Secretely, I asked Armien if she could smuggle a ranger garb, the one similar to that worn by guards. I hated the plain white dress I was wearing. They gave me human clothes with revealing neckline, human dress they would call it.

The elf gave me a stern look but later said I didn't need to steal. She led me to her room and there she opened an old wooden chest.

'This will suit you well,' she said holding up a forest green sleeveless waistcoat. The fabric was cotton with earthly designs. Its color will easily blend with the forests. She handed a few more garments, brown pants and body fitted tunic for inner clothes.

'Where did you get these?' I asked.

'These are my sister's. She was a guard,' she murmured. 'You can have her bow and this knife.'

'Oh, thank you. But, is it okay that you're giving all her stuff away? If you could let me meet her, I'll personally give her my thanks.'

She looked at me with sullen eyes, 'She is gone, Safirah. She was killed by an Orc-folk while patrolling the borders.'

I covered my mouth in shock, I felt awful. 'I'm s-sorry.'

'That's okay. I have accepted that fact long time ago. My sister was braver and bolder than me, she was a lot like you.'

For a moment we stared at each other until I gave her a hug. I felt her pain but no tears came down her cheeks.

'I never had a sibling,' I whispered. 'Can I have you as my sister?' She smiled and nodded.

I was relieved, we both were. Right after, we bade goodbyes. I headed back to the palace with the box to my chest. I need rest and prepare myself for tonight --- and rest I did.
