"Welcome to McDonald's, may I take your order?" I asked exasperatingly, yet with a smile.

"Yes, may I have a number 2?"

"Meal or just the sandwich?"

"Meal."

"And for your drink?"

"Sprite?"

I entered everything the man told me, "will that be all sir?"

"Yes."

"$7.34."

He handed me a $10 bill and I opened up the cash register, I got out his change and closed it back as the receipt printed. I grabbed it and put the change and receipt in his hand.

"Thank you and have a nice day."

He stepped to the side and waited for his order. The next costumer stepped up and I mentally rolled my eyes.

I was doing a 8 hour shift and I was beyond tired. I work from 3 pm till 11pm. I chose the night shift for a reason, I hate getting up in the morning, and I get to sleep throughout the day.

Working here isn't much, and it's definitely not what I hoped for, but it's enough to provide for me and my little sister. She's all I have and I can't lose her.

I had to get this job to prove to the state that I was a responsible adult and that I am able to care for her. We live in a 2 bedroom apartment on the east side of Atlanta. It's hard, honestly. I have too much to try and do.

Rent is going up, having to pay nearly $400 a month, and this little job ain't cutting it. Yes I'm maintaining, but who knows how long I'm gonna be able to? I can't do everything on my own.

My sister is a huge help though, being 13 and all, she has a job herself. In the summer, she works at a daycare, but since she's in school now, she just babysits after school, and she does a little bit of tutoring. I'm really proud of her, she's becoming a woman, and stepping up to help me out like she's doing, is showing me she's more than just trustworthy, she's responsible as well.

I love my sister with everything in me. I just wish there was a way I could be better for her... She deserves better.

I sighed after the last costumer received her food and walked out. I let out a deep breath and leaned over the counter.

"Tired?"

"Extremely."

I looked up at my co-worker, Josh... Who just so happens to be one of my bestfriends. Josh and I met at work of course, when I first started here, he was the one who showed me how to work everything, what to do, and what to say. Every since then, he and I have been tight.

"It's about time we both clock out, you want a ride home?"

"Sure, thank you."

"No problem, I'll be out front in the car."

I nodded and went to the back to get my purse. I made sure everything was inside before punching out. I took off my hat and put it inside my bag. I walked out of the door and went outside.

I got inside of Josh's car and put my seatbelt on. He pulled off and started driving towards my house.

"You been okay? You look stressed."
