I flashed in front of Annabeth. "Hey, wait a second. Uh...how much of that did you hear?"

She glared at me with tears in her eyes. "You were discussing with my mother for my hand in marriage and you didn't even ask me my thoughts about it!"

I sighed and scratched the back of my neck. "Yeah, that's not exactly what happened," I say nervously.

"Really? Because thats exactly what it sounded like."

"Well its not. Look, we were having a long council meeting in which I ended up stopping my father from arguing with your mother. She stopped to appologize to me before I left. We ended discussing my required marriage and it came up that I fell hard for you.

"She wasn't too pleased by it. She tried to say I would be like Zeus or Apollo. I explained that I'm a perfect balance between my siblings so that would never happen. That she'd never see biological demigods of mine. The only way she'd see demigods is if I decided to adopt one.

"She ended up sort of giving me permission to marry you. That's when you ran off. I was going to plan a whole lot of things to do before I proposed, but you kind of put a stop to it," I explain as quickly as I could, afraid she'd try to interrupt.

She stared at me. "She gave you permission to marry me? But what about what I want?" she asked.

I looked at her, trying not to be hurt by the tone in her voice. "I'm not going to force you to do anything Annabeth. I think you know me better than that."

She sighed, "Do I, Lord Perseus? You are a god after all. And...a multi-millennia old demigod. So, I don't really know you. Heck, you've never even asked me on a date!"

My eyes turned stone cold. "I get that Annabeth. I never intended to just say, 'Hey, will you marry me without getting to know me?' But, back on the beach, I thought we had something. Or was that just me."

She had the decency to look guilty. "No, I do like you. I'm sorry. This just seemed so sudden, and I thought you weren't even going to ask my opinion."

I looked down. "You know, most wouldn't act like you when offered to marry a god. They'd jump at the opportunity to become immortal, even if it meant having to give birth to a child that may or may not be the exact opposite of what you'd expect from the two parents. But you...I like that you aren't worried about just being Immortal and more worried about if you'll be happy."

She was stunned. "What will you do if I say no?"

It was my turned to be shocked. I had no idea really. I wasn't interested in any other females. "I don't know. I guess I'd just accept whatever consequences come with ignoring a prophecy from the Fates themselves."

"No! I don't want you to get hurt. I-I'll do it. Just promise me– Look I know you're a god, and while you might promise to be faithful now, eternity is a long time. Just promise me you'll always come home to me at night, whatever happens at any other time."

My mood went fowl. "I have no intentions of cheating on you, ever. I'd rather spend a century wandering in Tartarus again, than be the exact thing my mother hated. Plus...your mother has threatened to castrate me and dump me in the worst part of Tartarus with an announcement to every monster I have killed, while god or demigod, that I was in town."

With that, I had no desire to continue conversing so I just said, "And since we really haven't been on a date...close your eyes," and we were gone.
