Several hours had passed now, and the sun was coming up over the horizon behind us. Alex and Luke had both fallen asleep again, and Gage drove on. I looked out the window, and then glanced over at Jesse, asleep on my shoulder. He was so cute when he slept. He never did look quite at peace though, even while sleeping. He always appeared troubled. He worried me sometimes, but I trusted him completely. He and I were a lot a like in the way we handled issues. We both clammed up and refused to talk about it. I had managed to get him to open up to me a couple of times, and both times, he had proven to be smart and logical. He shifted in his sleep, groaning a little bit. He was cold. I grabbed my blanket and draped it over him and he instantly relaxed. Seeing him finally relax a little bit made me realize how tired I was. I laid my head on top of his and slowly drifted into a nightmare infested sleep.
EARLY MORNING
When I woke up, Gage had just stopped the van, placing it in park. He looked into the back seat, and realized I had just woken up. He gently shook Luke.
“Lucas. Wake up. We’re here!” He said quietly. Luke’s eyes darted open, and a sleepy smile crossed his face.
“Fuck yeah… Let’s do this shit. Who’s waking the Kraken?” He asked, pointing at Alex.
“FUCK YOU.” She grumbled, pulling Gage’s hoodie over her face. “Already awake, you ass.” She grabbed her cigarettes and opened her door. “Wanna smoke?” She asked me. I nodded and turned to a sleepy Jesse.
“Hey. Jess… We’re here. Wake up sleepy head.” I shook him gently. His eyes fluttered open and he yawned. He slowly sat up. I took this as my time to head out. I shoved Luke out of my way and joined Alex. She handed me her lit cigarette, and quickly lit another. She sighed, still sleepy. She closed her eyes, leaning against the van.
“I have a migraine. It’s way too hot here. I want to go to the beach…” She whined.
“Sound check as soon as everything’s unloaded. We’re playing first and the Asking Alexandria plays.” Gage said, rounding the bumper with two guitar cases.
I got a lump in my throat. Asking Alexandria was Alex’s favorite band. Through her I had memorized several of their songs and actually enjoyed them. Meeting new people always made me nervous.
“Don’t suppose you have a spare?” A tall guy asked in a thick, shy British accent. He gestured toward the cigarette.
