"Alright listen up students, the scores have been tallied. Let us begin, we will reveal the winners of each station then the overall scores," Mr Maclean says from the front of the dining hall, "in the tree climbing activity we had Conroy, William, Francois, Nick, Joseph and Johnathon. For the sand dune treasure activity the winners were Philippe, Reagan, Phina, Ritchie, Anna and Zoe with twenty seconds. The winners of the sandcastle was Tommy, Penelope, Seth, Luke, Jake and Rosie. The Winners of the lagoon obstacle activity were Darcy, Tide, Hue, Rhea, Flynn and Gerard. The tea towel activity was won by Lola, Piper, Warrick, Phoenix, Hayley and Violet. Which was expected because the group was made of the teeny tiny girls and only two boys. And again Tommy and Penelope's group won my activity and the cliff climbing challenge,"
Several kids cheer and stand hi-five their team mates. When I look over at Tide he has a look of confusion on his face. I guess he has realised that Tommy is a much better human than he is. People can cooperate with Tommy. Tides's put downs are contradicted by the scores. I feel really bad for the three teams that didn't win any activity. But I am so proud of my team, I chuckle when I see Luke doing a celebratory dance in his seat. The classes have been really mixed up with this activity. Having three classes of sixteen students means we get one on one training. Unlike the English classes with 30 students in each, where we are expected to learn individually. Camps like this help us to connect with our fellow team mates from our different sport teams. We get to bond with the other P.E teachers. Mr Maclean is everyone's favourite. I wasn't allowed to be in his class because we are friends, which goes against all the student/teacher rules. Miss V.F is an amazing teacher, I don't know Mr Jenkins well enough to comment on his teaching. My train of thought is interrupted by Tommy squeezing my hand. He smiles and tilts his head towards Darcy who is running her hand up Hue's thigh. I wriggle my eyebrows but have to push away my concern as Mr Sam Maclean starts to speak again.
"Now for the overall scores. In eighth place we had Zeke, Lucy, Jackie, Yu- Lim, Mitchell and Queenie. Before you give them stick for loosing they tried their best. Seventh place is Danika, Eden, Tristan, Jamie, Roxy and Antony. Sixth place was given to India, Shane, Liam, Samuel, Adam and Simi. Lola's group came fifth. Darcy and Tide's group came fourth, they would have placed higher but their team work was appalling so they were marked down. Now here comes the exciting bit. Drum roll please!" Sammy says. His last sentence causing an uproar of hands drumming against the tables.
By now Tide and Darcy are fuming. Darcy has to be the best at everything which actually doesn't happen very often. That is why she is such a cow. I notice her hand has still not moved from Hue's leg. I lock gazes with her and shake my head. I turn my attention back to my sister's best friend, waiting to hear the best placings.
"Sooo in third place we have Philippe's group, whoop whoop! In second place was Conroy and Will's group. Big ups to the all man group. Now that means that Tommy and Penelope's group won. Give them a cheer!" Mr Maclean says sending a beaming grin in my direction. He wanted us to win. "But before we leave Miss V.F has something to say about why this team won," He says bringing the escaping students to a halt. I am intrigued to hear what she has to say.
"So not only were this team star sportsmen and women because the are super talented. But they also were amazing team mates. They listened to each other and no one was the leader. They gave each of the members their moment to shine. Making the most of everyone's talents which didn't happen in many of the other teams. For example Rhea is amazing at climbing but Tide was determined to be the star of the show and declared he would climb the cliff. They won Mr Maclean's activity because they thought outside of the box. Penelope is the only student who thought to use a drink bottle to transport the water. This team demonstrated many different qualities coaches want in their players. People that have these qualities are more likely to be given titles such as captain and co-captain. Because, as from next week there will be applications for new captains. Because Principal Higgins is not happy with our heads of sports. We can't have party-goers or people that sleep around as captains. We most definitely cannot have people who think they are the best players in the team as captains. Because this sets the wrong example for the younger students. This is a wake up call to you all. So see this group as an inspiration to develop your character. They are 'Goals'," she states. I can see a few people shooting us the evil eye. But I ignore it and congratulate my team. "You may now leave." A loud ruckus begins as we all file out of the food hall.
