Chapter 37

~ Jessica POV ~

After Kai's revelation, Daniel started coming over and playing with him. Even Ron was friends with him now.
Friends my ass I knew he had a crush on him... It was quite funny watching him drool as he watched Daniel play Lego with Kai.

Daniel was a good friend and he acted like one ... Well most of the time... He always stole kisses from me here and there and occasionally saw him goggling me with his beautiful eyes. It was the first time a guy, a man, accepted my life and who I was.

Even my mother was cheering and nagging me to stop being a 'kid' and date him already.

It was now a Saturday night, Daniel was at my house for dinner as so were my parents and of course Ron was there.
My mother and I were in the kitchen preparing dinner and the boys were in the living room arguing about heroes and cars.

-"Jessica dear, did you tell him the truth?" my mom asked as she stirred up the pasta.
-"Yes... I told him that Kai is my son." I answered her as I continued washing the dishes.
-"Jess you know what I am talking about. You need to tell him that Kai..."
-"DON'T SAY IT!!! KAI IS NOT AN ORPHAN." I snapped at her.
I saw her stiffen as she starred at me with teary eyes, then it was her turn to snap.
-"OF COURSE HE IS NOT AN ORPHAN, YOUR BROTHER DECIDED THAT YOU SHOULD BE HIS SON'S LEGAL GUARDIAN. HE WAS MY SON. HE IS MY GRANDCHILD."
-"And I am his aunt and mother."
-"Jess my child, I just feel sad for the fact that I see you punishing yourself for what happened years ago. You have a gorgeous gentleman next to you. Why are you running away and not telling him the entire truth?"

-"What truth?" said a voice behind us.
Shit!! There he was standing behind me his arms crossed and eyebrows furrowed. Shit, shit, shit... Daniel Dexter was mad.

-"Why didn't you tell me? WHY? You know what, don't even bother answering that because I don't want to hear another one of your excuses again. I won't bother you anymore." He took his jacket, said goodbye to my family and left.

He didn't even look at me...
And for the first time, I was frozen in the same spot again, crying for losing someone that, deep down, I knew that I cared about...
