Chapter 1

I walked upstairs to my bedroom at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. I've only just arrived from the train station dropping me off. I wouldn't be lying if I said that I'm worried for my parents safety. Leaving them this year knowing that the death eaters want to diminish all of the muggle parents with magical children, was very diffcult. Hopefully they'll be safe for one more year, and then I'll have to take action. I push the horrible thoughts out of my mind and walk inside my room. This year i'm head girl, so I get my own room. I am preoccupied on wondering who head boy will be as I start unpacking my things. I place a picture of my mum and dad on my bedside table, then load all of my clothes into the wooden wardrobe and dresser. I change into a plain white tee shirt and jeans, then put my grey gryffendor sweater over my shirt. My hair sits plainly around my shoulders, so I pin a little piece of it back. Looking in the mirror, I seem very stressed. I am very stressed. I quickly smile, but it doesnt look very convincing at all. I assume the best solution would be to just dodge all questions. I am about to walk downstairs, when I hear someone occupy the room beside mine. That must be head boy. Out of pure curiosity, I knock softly on his door. "Hello?" I whisper. The door opens automatically. Its him. Malfoy. "What is it, Granger?" He asks harshly. What was Mcgonagall thinking?! Draco Malfoy as head boy? This must mean she wants someone to keep a close eye on him. I know Professor isn't so thick as to do it for any other reason. "Draco," I stutter. All I can think of is the fact that somewhere, deep in the back of my mind, there was a strange dream, for some reason, saved just for him. A dream where the revolting Draco Malfoy, kissed my lips. But something was tugging at the memory, erasing it. "Surprised? Yeah, I guess I am that good," he says. He covers his mouth to cough, but instead I can see him muttering something. A thought comes to my mind. He must know about the dream, or seen it with me. He's trying to make me forget it, but why? I hold on to it as tight as I can, I can't forget, I don't want to. He looks up and its clear he knows what I know. I run inside my room and grab my wand. "Obliviate!" he casts in my direction. I quickly shield it. "What are you doing?" I scream at him. "That dream should have never happened! Now you know what I am!" He screams. "Expelliarmus!" I yell. He dodges it. "And your going to tell everyone, aren't you?!" He says, pointing his wand at me. We're now circling the room, a few feet away from each other. "Give me a break, Draco!" I say. "Expelliarmus!" I yell. I disarm him triumphantly. The room goes silent. "I won't say. You can be head boy, I can be head girl. I can forget about it, ok? I won't say anything," I conclude. "Wait, you, won't say anything? why?" he asks, confused at my reaction. "Because, Draco, I'm a decent person. You wouldn't know how that works," I say. "Just, just let me see it. Just once, then I promise I'll leave you alone for good," I say. "Why would you want to see it?" He asks. "None of your concern," I say, walking closer to him. "Fine. You want to see the sign of a murderer, go ahead," he says, frustration in his eyes. "Don't get so restless," I say. He holds out his covered arm for me. I put one of my cold hands on the back of his wrist, and one on his sleeve. "Do it," He says. I sneak a look at his face, and see that he has goosebumps from my cold touch. I pull up the sleeve without hesitation and see it. Inked into his skin, is the mark of a death eater. So the dream was real, Draco was really a death eater. For some reason, I found it hard to believe. I had always thought, even Draco wasn't so low as to join the dark side. My fingertips brushed over the skull and he shivered. "Alright, you've seen it. Now leave me alone," he says, his voice wavering. I pull the sleeve back over the dark mark and take a deep breath. This is the first time I've ever seen Draco so scared. "I get it. Filthy mudblood," I whisper. I give him his wand and start to walk away, but he calls me. "Hermione wait," He says. I turn around reluctantly. He walks over to me and I back up against the wall, remembering that he now has his wand. He can see i'm frightened, even though I try to hide it. He wraps his arms around me for a mere 10 seconds. "Thank you," He smiles. "This doesnt change anything," I try to hide my smile, but he can see the corners of my lips are turning up. "Whatever," he says. I walk back to my room and sit on my bed. What just happened? Did I really just hold a civil convorsation with Draco Malfoy?
