BRYCE'S POV
Harrison, Shaun, Logan, Brandon, Chris, Alex, Jake, and I decided to head to Joelle's before A-Troupe practice.
"This bet is going to be even sweeter. The main E-Queen, the Studio Head's daughter, little miss perfect AND dance captain! Dude, you're screwed." Brandon chuckles.
"No, I'm not. I always get the ladies." I am a bit less sure than I was letting on. Chelsea is being really stubborn.
"Bryce, maybe you should call the bet off. The J-Troupe girls are very sceptical." Chris explains.
"Yeah, not to mention she's caught all the adult's hearts, including your parents," Alex reminds me.
"Yeah, plus she's related to famous dancers, got friends from different studios from across the nation and her parents know almost every teacher from Juilliard." Shaun lets out a tense sigh.
"We don't care if you guys agree. Just shut your traps." Harrison snaps.
"And it's not like it's going to last forever. As soon as Miss Preppy Dork has kissed me, it will all be over. I'll tell her it's a bet and she'll be heartbroken, feeling silly to ever fall for me." Some of the boys laugh, but Jake snaps at me.
"Don't you get tired of using girls?!" I sort of gaze off, memories reflecting back. "Some people actually fall in love and maybe you should stop trying to be so rude to everyone." Jake's voice echoes as I watch a young boy chasing after a young girl while they're laughing. No, I come back to reality as the boys' faces blush with concern.
"You okay, man?" Harrison asks.
"Yeah, but maybe Sir Dork-a-lot should go back to his mummy before I kick him back to his orphanage." Jake's face flushes red with anger before he runs off.
"That's going a bit far, mate." Brandon retorts softly.
"I know, I'll apologise later. I just remembered something." I sigh, attempting to shake it off.
JAKE'S POV
I sit down in the Music Room. It was quiet because the J-Troupe girls had gone to get some lunch while I stayed here with the boys. Why can't I just be a normal kid, who isn't adopted? Why couldn't Stephanie be my birth mother and why couldn't I have a dad? I wasn't angry at my adopted mother, I could never be angry at such a kind person. I'm angry at myself for letting Bryce get under my skin. I lay down on the floor and stare at the ceiling. I hear footsteps come into the Music Room, but I just stay where I am.
"What are you doing, J?" I jump at Laura's voice. "Hey, are you okay?" She sits down beside me, her voice laced with concern and her deep brown eyes sparkling with curiosity. I shake my head.
"It's nothing, Ra Ra. Just the A-Troupe boys getting under my skin." Laura scowls.
"Why do you hang out with those idiots anyway?" I smile at her chuckling.
"Hey, those idiots are my friends. They just get annoying sometimes." I playfully punch her shoulder and she laughs, pushing me softly. We stare at each other for a bit and I felt this weird feeling rush around my body. I admit, Laura is beautiful, but I've never felt this way. Our faces blush and I stand up, lending her a hand.
