When Bruce decided that Bucky was stable enough to go home, you, Bucky, and James headed home. Since he had ordered enough Shwarma for all of you, Steve gave you guys your portions of the now cold shwarma to to eat when you got back to the apartment. Bucky was still a little shaken, so you drove back to the apartment. When you got home, it was around 3. You and Bucky decided to wait and eat, but you gave James some graham crackers to tide him over.
After James finished eating, you walked him over to the living area and sat down on the floor to play with him. You got out his wooden blocks and Lincoln logs and helped him build a house. Bucky sat watching you both from the couch. You leaned your back against the couch and rested your head against Bucky's leg. After a few minutes, he scooted off of the couch onto the floor next to you both.
"How did you know what to do?" he asked. "How did you know what to do when you first saw him? Wasn't it scary? Him being in your arms for the first time. " He had finally found the courage to ask you what it was like without him there (more or less) and what it was like to be a mother at first. I thought for a moment before answering.
"James (you took his hands in yours), when I first saw him, I was scared, but I was also sad." He looked surprised.
"Why were you sad?"
"Because you weren't there, and I missed you. I thought that you were dead, and that I'd have to raise him without you. But then I had a realization moment. Even though you weren't there, I was going to raise James to know how great of a man you were, and now that you're here, I want us to raise him to be the great man you are now." Bucky smiled a weak smile and grabbed a handful of Lincoln logs so that he could build a cabin.
------------
After having a cabin building competition with Bucky (you were obviously the winner, but he said that since he added a "home theater" to his, he won), you two decided that it was time to eat. You helped James and Bucky (the old man) stand up, and the three of you walked to the kitchen.
You heated up the shwarma for you and Bucky and made some eggs for James. After getting the shwarma out of the microwave, you all went to the kitchen table. You helped James into his highchair and then started to eat. Something about the shwarma did not agree with you, and you soon ran to the bathroom, your stomach in knots. Bucky followed after you very concerned. You kneeled down in front of the toilet and vomited. Bucky, trying to think of a way he could help you, pulled your hair away from your face and rubbed your back. After a few minutes you were done. You felt terrible.
"Do you feel ok, (Y/N)?" You started to nod your head, but then you felt the force of a headache attack your head and shook your head violently, causing the headache to become worse. You nestled your head into Bucky's chest and softly moaned. Bucky just kept rubbing your back. After a few minutes, Bucky picked you up and took you to the bedroom. After laying you down on the bed, Bucky went, got James cleaned up, got James ready, and put him to bed. You were already nearly asleep, so when Bucky came back in, he just climbed into bed next to you and pulled you close. You snuggled against his chest and soon fell asleep.
-------------------
The next day, you made the decision that shwarma was not a food you could eat again unless you wanted more terrible side effects. Bucky called Steve and told him about what had happened and that he was going to stay home with you all day. Steve understood and told him that they would just have to go and see The Jungle Book some other time. After Bucky called Steve, he came back into the bedroom where you were still asleep. It was early enough that James was still asleep, so Bucky didn't have to worry about James needing him. He was going to stay by your side all day like you had countless when he needed you. He quietly chuckled as he climbed back into bed. You snuggled up too him and wrapped your arms around him while half awake. Bucky was pretty much rendered immobile. He just sat there smiling into your hair thinking back to the 40s.
