At first she ignored it but it rang and rang and rang. She was afraid her mother would hear it and she would get in trouble for eating pudding on the couch.
"Yes?" she heaved.
"Obviously we upset you. We are sorry. We are just so used to futurepast being the number one problem we face as human beings that we forget that in the pastpast it was different."
"Pastpast?"
"There is a futurepast, a pastpast and a futurefuture. We hope to God you can help us find the futurefuture!"
"Is this going to be really boring?"
"No! It's very terrible!"
"Can you call when I'm in a terrible mood? I don't feel terrible right now and I like to do the same things that I feel."
"We don't have time for that!" shouted the General. "You may be able to help us!"
"Who is us?"
"People of the futurepast. Approximately 1976, forty years from where you are today."
Lindy licked her pudding spoon. It was getting a little more interesting. Although, she didn't know anything about 1976 except it seemed like it was a long time ago and she didn't like things that happened that long ago because they were dusty and smelled like grandma things. "My mom was born in 1981," Lindy said.
"Good to know, good to know. What is her name? It is possible she is still alive. We are trying hard to find you as well but all we have are phone books and Bell company records."
"Wait, I thought you said that you live in the past?"
"Not at all, I said the futurepast. See we are also in the year 2056, forty years in your future. We are both 1976 and 2056."
"I don't get it." Lindy's mind was wandering. This wasn't as great of a story as say . . . something on the Disney Channel.
"I will let the Chief Technology Officer answer this question."
A woman came on the line. She was older too, with a slick voice.
