My vision is blurry when I open my eyes again. I see fuzzy white shapes everywhere. When everything comes into focus, I realize I am in a hospital. I look around and see machines, some on and off, and a couple chairs- one of which Steve is sitting in!

"Nat," he says.

"Steve, what are you doing here? How did you find me?"

"They called me." He brings the chair closer. "Natasha, why did you leave? You're a part of this mission too."

I look around the room in case there are cameras around. The room appears clear so I whisper back. "What are you talking about?"

"I think you know exactly what I'm talking about. The Russian Girls Assassin's League? HYDRA? Ashley Porter? I know she contacted you."

I don't know how he knows about this. Fury must have assigned this battle to them. "Did Fury tell you something? Did he assign you to something?"

"Not just me. Sharon too. And you."

"Fill me in."

Steve tells me about how Fury came to his apartment and told him about the new problem with HYDRA. He tells me about how the assassins teamed up with them and most of them were from the Red Room. He tells me about the research they did and they found out their location.

"There's one more thing," Steve says. "We looked through more records-well I did. I know. About the Red Room and what goes on in there. And your missions afterward."

I stiffen and nod. "And? Now what do you think of me?" He should leave now. Any minute now he's going to tell me the truth. I am a monster. A killer. Nothing more than a brutal assassin. I belong with HYDRA.

Steve doesn't have time to answer, however. A doctor walks in, probably realizing that I have woken up. He begins to speak.

"Miss Romanov, I see you have woken up. You're friend here has not left your side," he says nodding at Steve. "Do you mind if I check a few things?"

I nod and he checks pulse, blood pressure, and whether or not I have a concussion. He tells me I am fine and that I am free to go tomorrow morning so long as nothing happens. He tells I am very lucky to walk away from the attack on the resort without any serious injuries.

When the doctor leaves, Steve speaks again. "Nat, I don't see you any differently. You're still the same to me. Remember when you asked me if I would trust you to save me if it were up to you? I still would. Now more than ever."

I look to him. I don't understand. Nobody trusts me except Clint, really. Yet here is Steve Rogers. Captain America. Advocate of justice and freedom and all things good, and he trusts me. A killer. An assassin. The polar opposite of him.

"Natasha, you're nothing like those other girls on that HYDRA team," he says.

I don't know how he sees anything more than the assassin the Red Room made me. It's encouraging to know that he sees more. My feelings intensify as he grabs my hand.

"It's okay," he says.
