I sat down underneath a large tree, opening my book. It was an unseasonably warm day, so I had decided to spend the day outside instead of holed up in the Slytherin dorms. My friends had invited me to Hogsmeade, but I wanted to catch up on the mountain of books that were piled up in my room. So, it was under that tree that I decided to read a few of them.

Leaning against the tree, I became completely engrossed in my book. I lost track of time, and when I looked back up, it was after sundown and my eyes were beginning to strain. Sighing, I put my book away and sat back, looking out across the lake.

Feeling the presence of another person next to me, I turned, smiling softly when I saw who it was.

"It's beautiful, isn't it?" I commented, looking at the way the moon reflected off of the water. He sat down, nodding.

"Yeah, it's really peaceful. I like it," He replied. We drifted off into a peaceful silence, before I broke it with a question.

"Remus?"

"Yeah?"

"Why do all of your friends hate me?" He turned to look at me, and I continued.

"I mean, I know that the entire school does, except for Slytherins and maybe you. But why? What did I do to your friends to make them hate me more than the rest? I've never even had a real conversation with them since first year!" I wondered aloud. He sighed.

"I don't know. I really don't. They've never tried to explain it to me; they always act like it's because the Slytherins protect you, but that's not a reason to hate someone," He responded.

"I just want to know why everyone hates me because of my friends. I'm not mean or rude. The only fault people find in me that makes them hate me is that I'm a Slytherin! I'm just confused, I guess," I exclaimed, messing with the grass beneath my fingers. Remus looked with sympathy.

"I know. I'm going to try to figure it out. I think that if they give you a chance, they would really like you. You aren't that different from me, and they like me," he suggested, and I smiled.

"Well, I-" I cut myself off when I saw three angry boys behind Remus. Looking at his face, I was guessing that my friends were behind me. My thoughts were confirmed when Lucius spoke in a cold voice.

"And what in hell do you think you're doing?" He snarled. I turned to see Sev step up as well.

"Yeah. Get away from Ash." He demanded. James looked incredulous from behind Remus.

"How about you tell your little pet to get away from Moony?" He snapped. I rolled my eyes.

"Guys-" I was cut off by Sirius.

"Shut it, Elmer. You better not have hurt Remus, or-"

"Her? Hurt Lupin? Like that would ever happen. He was probably attacking her!"

Remus and I looked at each other, rolling our eyes in sync. The two groups continued to argue until Remus stood up.

"OKAY. Guys, let's go. I'll explain later. Bye, Ashlynn." He commanded, smiling at me as I waved back.

Turning to my own friends, I gulped. Regulus grabbed me and started looking over me.

"What happened? Did he hurt you? If he touched you, I swear-" I cut him off.

"No, I'm fine. Guys, I appreciate what you are trying to do, but Remus and I are friends!" I explained, causing my friends to roll their eyes and scoff.

"You can't be friends with one of them. It goes against everything we believe in. That's final." Narcissa dismissed my comment. Sighing, I trudged up to the castle behind my friends.
