I remember when to celebrate my adoption day, (since my foster parents didn't know my real birthday) I was taken to the pet shop and we got a puppy.

I was looking through all the cages, seeing dozens of big, strong, cute puppy's. My foster dad wanted to get the baby German Shepard.

But a different puppy caught my eye.

He was a mess of a thing. His face was covered in scars and he was going blind in one eye. He seemed happy to see me though.

I stuck my finger through a hole in the cage, and he gave me a little lick.

The manager saw me looking at the puppy. "That ones been here for months. He's a sweet fellow, but nobody seems to want him."

"You're like me." I whispered. "Nobody wants me either. I'm alone too."

The puppy gave a little whimper, like he knew what I was talking about.

"Tell ya' what though. I'll adopt you, and then we can be alone together. Then we'll have somebody, and we'll be in this together."

He gave me a happy face and I knew he was a keeper.

My foster parents were shocked when I turned down all the other puppies for that one, but they realized after some pleading that I wasn't gonna back down.

For two years the little puppy that I named Ty was my best friend. I probably would have run away before I did, but I couldn't bear to leave Ty.

One day I came home from school to learn that Ty was hit by a car. I cried for a full day.

The next week I left. I didn't have any reason to stay.

Now, running from Liam and Kyle, I miss Ty more than ever. I want somebody to be there for me. Always.

But that's only in fairy tales.
