The gas station blew up while we were about two hundred yards away from it. There was no sign of the kidnapper, but we decided we should keep walking anyway.

"How much longer do we have to walk?" I whined. I was exhausted and hungry. I felt my stomach growl.

"Not much longer." Kaytlin answered. "Jeez Emma. You sound like a friggin' four year old."

"We'll I'm sorry." I said, feeling insulted. "Can't we stop for a second? I'm tired."

"We gotta keep goin' Emma."

"Kaytlin..."

"Try doing this everyday for your whole freakin' life." She retorted, glaring at me.

I instantly felt guilty.

"I'm really sorry. I didn't mean to act like-"

"I know." She said, cutting me off.

Even though she forgave me, I still felt like a spoiled brat. She had been running her whole life and she wasn't complaining. But here I was whining and I had the perfect life.

Or, I used to have.

"I'm still sorry-" before I could finish my sentence I was interrupted again.

"Ring, ring, ring!"

Kaytlin took a cellphone out of her pocket. It was the phone that had been in the gas station.

She looked at the number and dropped the cellphone on the gravel road, screaming. Her face was as white as a sheet.

"What?" I asked, as I picked up the phone. It was still ringing.

I pressed the green answer button.

"He-Hello?"

"Hello? Ivy? This is Kyle."
