The ride was pretty quiet. I tried making small talk, but Kyle just wouldn't talk. He wouldn't tell us how he escaped the massacre back at the old house.
As for Kaytlin, I had just about the same luck trying to talk to her: None.
She just stared out the window as if something was bothering her.
After awhile I just gave up. I wasn't getting anywhere anyway.
After about a half hour of driving we pulled up into nice looking house. It was painted a sandy shade of yellow with a brown shingled roof. It had big, glass windows and it looked at least two stories high. There was a nice big porch up front with a flower garden in front of it. The lawn seemed to stretch out forever with plenty of high oak trees. Here's the weird thing: I remembered it. Somewhere in the depths of my mind I knew that I had been there before. You know that weird feeling where you remember something, but you don't know how? Like De já vú. That's what I felt when I looked at the house. Like I had been there before. Kyle dropped us off after saying some stuff to Kaytlin. She looked like she was crying.
"Are you okay Kaytlin?" I asked.
"Yeah." Her tone did not reflect her words. "Where are we?"
"I don't know. Didn't Kyle tell you when you two were talking?"
Her eyes darkened as soon as I said those words. I immediately wished that I could shove them back into my mouth.
Kaytlin sighed. "Well, there's only one way to find out where we are."
And with those famous last words Kaytlin walked up the front porch and knocked on the door.
