You shift as soon as you hear Aphmau yelling, you race ahead of Garroth and Laurence, spotting a huge castle on the horizon. You charge into the wolf pack, growling. They spin around. You howl at them.
"LEAVE!" They ignore your order and resume banging on the door. You can hear Aphmau squeal from inside. You growl again, this time louder. "LEAVE HERE, AND LIVE!!" They take your threat just the same as the last one. You find the biggest wolf and bite down hard on his tail. He howls and throws you off. You land upright on your paws, turn tail (pun intended), and run, with the wolves in trail. ((Or should I say in TAIL! Man, you sure high TAILED it outta there! xD. I'm sorry... No I'm not.))
You howl at Garroth and Laurence, who had run all the way as well, to get out their swords. The boys swing their weapons while you lash out, claws extended, teeth bared. One of the cubs bites you hard on the paw. You whimper and shove him away. The three of you defeat the wolves and retreat to the castle. You limp along with your front right paw in the air. Garroth seems to notice this.
"(Y/N)? Are you alright?" You shift back human and hold your bloody and bruised hand. Garroth gasps. You shake it and wince at the sting. "It's broken, but I'll live. Come on, let's go see Aphmau." You tuck your hand on the inside of your (F/C) cloak. Garroth and Laurence push open the huge gate.
You instantly get a sense of nausea, but hide it. You can hear footsteps from above you. Your eyes and the boy's fall upon a two girls coming down the staircase. One of them has your (H/C) hair and (E/C) eyes and the other had Error's piercing purple eyes and black hair. Error smiles coldly at the clone of you, who was in shackles. The clone you struggles to get away, but only to fail. Error and Clone You don't seem to see real you, Garroth, or Laurence. You stand frozen at the sight.
Clone You screams and curses at Error. Error says the words you remember her saying to you before.
"Oh, I really can't decide weather you should live or die," Clone you screams again and tries to pull away. "Oh, shut up! You'll probably go to Heaven, don't hang your head and cry. Or you might not, I don't really care, either way I'm screwed! So, go ahead, Little Angel, struggle, scream, call for help, howl to your mut friends, I dare you!" She laughs, and real you steps back, falling over your own feet. Clone you lets out one final sob, before she stops struggling completely. She hangs her head in defeat. Error drags her upstairs, just as Aphmau and a blue haired man walk down holding hands. Garroth and Laurence run to their lord, but stop as the see the man.
Garroth slashes at them as they lean in for a kiss, the mirage fades and the real Aphmau falls from somewhere in the rafters behind you. You cradle your right hand and rock back and forth softly as they lean over the ghost child. A few minutes later and Laurence and Aphmau start pitching the sleeping bags. Your still sat on the floor, your heart thumping. Error stays silent in your head.
You push aside your still black hair and wipe your blue eyes. You hear a quite voice from the staircase.
"I-I'm so sorry......" You look up to see Garroth talking to the ghost boy, but the ghost boy was only looking at you, apologizing. You stand shakily, still clutching your hand. You turn on your heels and walk outside into the snow. You pace around, thinking, trying to talk to Error.
What the hell Error?
Don't blame me, it's YOUR worst fear.
No, I mean why the hell were you so damn silent? Huh?
In my defense, I was a little shocked.
"AND YOU THINK I WASN'T!?!" You accidentally shout. What the fuck? Why are you shouting?!? Aphmau will hear you, or the wolves will come back! "I DON'T CARE! WHY DID THAT STUPID KID EVEN KNOW WHAT YOU LOOK LIKE? NO ONE KNOWS YOU BUT ME, RIGHT? SO WHAT THE FU-" You turn to face a very pale looking Aphmau. Point proven. Case closed.
You feel heat rise to your checks, even in the cold weather. Aphmau smiles patiently at you and giggles.
"What?" You cross your arms, then wince.
"Your crazy, you know that?" She smiles again. You smile and start singing. (The song is Mad Hatter by Melanie Martinez if you want the whole thing.)
"I'm nuts, baby, I'm mad,
The craziest friend that you've ever had
You think I'm psycho, you think I'm gone
Tell the psychiatrist something is wrong
Over the bend, entirely bonkers
You like me best when I'm off my rocker
Tell you a secret, I'm not alarmed
So what if I'm crazy? The best people are."Aphmau claps, laughing as you do a mock bow. You sniff. Aphmau does one of her changes from fun to serious. "(Y/N), I need you to tell me, who was that woman?" Your eyes lock, and even though her almost orange eyes still hold their original kindness, they also hold a sort of fire in them. You struggle to find words.
"R-Remember when Garroth said..." You turn to stare out into the snow beyond the castle grounds. "When Garroth said I was a monster? Well, he wasn't lying. Me, (Y/C), I'm a relatively okay person, but being a bender, I'm not just...me. I have, a counterpart, a-another half of a soul attached to the half of mine. I visit that soul every so often in my dreams, and I can hear her thoughts anytime. But, she can't take full control over our body unless I give it to her. Willingly, that is.
"When we were first, uh, merged I guess you could say, she hated me. Whenever we met in the dream landscape, thing, she would put me in shackles, but I fought her. I kept her under control. What..." You take in a deep breath. "What that ghost kid-"
"Malachi," Aphmau adds in.
"What Malachi showed me was my worst fear. Or that's what Error said it was." Aphmau shakes her head.
"I don't understand. Your worst fear was yourself in shackles, but you said that already happened?" It was your turn to shake your head.
"My worst fear isn't being in shackles, it's the last bit. I stopped. I didn't fight her anymore. She won. I lost. She could take control and do who knows what. I-I'm scared of myself really. Scared to find out what would have happened had I stopped fighting her."
"Oh," was all Aphmau could manage. You take in yet another deep breath, a shaky one. Aphmau starts to say something, but you stop her.
"Please, don't. And, Garroth," Aphmau swivels around to see Garroth, who had been eavesdropping on you the whole time from behind a tree. "You should learn a thing or to about privacy." You flick him in the forehead as you walk past. You move one of the sleeping bags to the other side of the entrance room, lay it down, and close your eyes, waiting for the darkness to swallow you again.
