~-Aphmau's POV-~
I know something's wrong as soon as I step off Ungrith. Totally forgetting that I still had Laurence in my lasso, I sprint up the hill. Smoke fills the air making me cough. I look around. Garroth. I think. Where is Garroth?
Then I see him. He's leaning over a person with a metal helm on. It reminds me of Garroth's in a way. Except that Garroth's is on the ground with a large crack down the middle. I'd never seen Garroth's face before. He's handsome, in a royal way.
The figure below him shifts.
"Garroth? What happened? Who is that? What's going on?"
"I don't know I just found her here. I had just come around the corner and she fainted."
A sudden panic hits me. "Garroth, where's Levin?"
"Mommy! You back! Levin missed you!" I spin around to see Levin coming out the charred back door, Zoey right behind. I pick up Levin under his arms and can feel tears run down my cheeks.
"Zoey...I thought... I saw the flames...How?" I stammer searching my mind for a possible explanation.
"The ocean saved us!" Levin cheered.
"It was that girl. She...She save our lives..."
~-Your POV-~
You wake up and wince at the pain in your head. Stupid Umi. You think. You lean up in the soft padded blankets. Swiveling around you see your helm lying on a table beside you. You hear a knock and slam it onto your head.
A woman comes in. She has black hair and hazel eyes. She smiles at you with a kind smile.
"Hello. I'm Lord Aphmau. Welcome to Phoenix Drop."
"Well, hello Lord Aphmau. I'm...Uh... (F/N) It's nice to meet you." You hold out your hand for her to shake. She grabs it and pulls you into a hug. You can hear her crying softly.
"T-thank you," She says through sobs. "(F/N) you-you saved my son. How can I ever repay you?" She pulls away, her eyes red and puffy.
"Well, I have been looking for a place to become a guard-"
"Done," she cuts you off. "I'll talk to Garroth, my right hand guard, about it right now!"
"O-okay. T-thanks." Aphmau heads towards the door but, she turns back to you for a quick second.
"My son's little, and he has quite the imagination. So, can you tell me? Did...Did you really bend the ocean? He said he peaked up when the water fell on top of the house." Your throat tightens. That was it. Your secret was out. You would be sent back 'There'. Forced to marry someone you didn't know, let alone love.
"Well...I...I, uh...Ah ha, about that..." You feel tears streak down your face. Of course, Aphmau couldn't see this, as you still had your helm on. Even so, she seemed to feel the change in the atmosphere.
"A-are you alright?" You shake your head.
"I-is there anyway we could keep that between you and me? Being a bender isn't necessarily something to be proud of. I-I can't let anyone know. That's why I bought this stupid helm in the first place. M-my eyes change when I'm bending or when I'm angry. And I'm not even supposed to call on the Hogo-sha, that's the spirits I can bend. And now Umi, the ocean spirit, is going to be ticked off at me and-"
"Whoa, whoa. Slow down. First, yes, this will stay confidential. Second, why is being a bender bad?"
"It's like being a magics user, divine, and witch all in one. Plus you can communicate with spirits." You explain to Aphmau {And for the reader's sake}.
"Wow! That's...That's...." Your already prepared to be thrown out of the village. To be seen as an outcast. But Aphmau catches you by surprise. "That's incredible!!"
"Really?" You ask very surprised indeed.
"Of course! That's the most amazing thing I've ev-" She keeps talking to you in excited ways.
You get the feeling you're going to like it here.
