Patrick POV || third person

Patrick stepped out the car, a clump of tissues wrapped tightly in his hands and his fedora sitting neatly on his head.

Drizzly rain came from the sky, the type of light rain that drenches you through, as everyone made their way into the church.

Inside, dark clothes were on every person you walked past, tissues in hand and snuffling every so often.

Patrick made his way towards the alter but turning before he reached it to join Andy and Pete, who were both sat in the pews behind Joe and his parents.

"I'm so sorry Patrick." Andy said to me, looking up. His eyes were red and his cheeks were tear stained, Andy never cried but with what had happened everyone had reached their breaking points.

"We're gathered here today to celebrate the life of Jessica Rosa Trohman." The vicar started, looking across the many people who had turned up. "She was loved by many and will be throughly missed, she was wonderful and enjoyed being around people who loved her most." The vicar smiled sorrowfully.

"We now have a few words from Mrs. Trohman, please." He moved out his spot for Jess' mum to read her speech but her mum just shook her head, snuffling into a crumpled tissue.

"I'll do it." Said Joe, stuffing his crumpled tissue into his pocket.

"Jess was a great character, someone everyone enjoyed to spend time with. She was a great little sister and even though she could take care of herself I'd always watch over her because I knew just how mischievous she really was." Joe smiled weakly. "I remember once when she was only 4, she had gone upstairs and she'd somehow got into my room and threw my boxers out the window that was open because of how hot the day was." He laughed, earning a murmur of weak laughter from most people.

"She was a wonderful sister and I'll- we'll miss her so much." He snuffled, diverting his eyes to the floor, making his way back to his pew. His mum embraced him into a big bear hug.

Patrick had written a speech and right now was his time to say it. He adjusted his fedora and went up to the microphone.

He cleared his throat and began. "I remember meeting Jess for the first time, she was quiet, calm and she wouldn't meet your gaze from shyness but as she got to know you better, the more she came out her shell, becoming this wonderful character that was adorable. When you wanted cheering up you'd go to see Jess, she'd have a joke up her sleeve and if she was here right now she'd make a pun about jokes being up your sleeve." Patrick laughed, he didn't want to continue with his speech, he had over 2 pages of words but he just couldn't do it, he knew he wouldn't be able to when he was writing it out but he just didn't think at the time.

"I'm sorry." He muttered, stepping away from the mic and making his way back to the pew, where he buried his face into his hands and started sobbing.

"Patrick, it's okay." Pete soothed, rubbing his hand up and down Patrick's back.

"I can't do it, I can't do it." Snuffled Patrick, standing up and walking at a rather fast pace and out of the church.

Outside it was still raining and hasn't slowed down in the slightest, but honestly why would rain stop someone from standing outside when they'd much rather be out than inside there.

Patrick pinched himself, maybe this was a dream, a horrible dream. He wanted to wake up right now to see Jess sleeping peacefully beside him, or Jess laughing at him for being so stupid and having a nightmare about her.

"Pat! Patrick!" Shouted someone from behind, Patrick turned round on his heel and met the gaze of Pete.

"Look, I know it's hard but come back in? For Jess?" Pete asked, pointing towards the big wooden door.

"I-I don't know if I can." Patrick said truthfully.

"Please just try."

"I can't, really I can't." Patrick sighed. "Just let me stay out here."

"I can't do that Pat, you're not in the right state of mind to be left alone." Pete sighed. "I know you want to be alone but I don't want anything happening to you."

"I know." Patrick shuffled on his feet, looking down at the wet gravel. "I'll come back in."

Pete gave him a reassuring pat on the shoulder as they both made their way back to their seats, being greeted by weak smiles from Joe and Andy.

---

The funeral went on a bit but after a while the ceremony was over. Everyone made their ways out of the church, light mumbles came from everybody, mainly chats about the service and Jess and a bit about Patrick just walking out.

There was a party back at Joes house for anyone who came to the service to go to afterwards and talk about stuff, meet up with old mutuals and mourn together really.

Patrick, Pete, Joe and Andy all made their way there, they shared Joes car to keep on eye on each other so no accidents occurred.

---

The room was filled with light chatter and the clinks of glasses every so often. Every was still wearing black, tissues in hand and small smiles on their faces.

"Patrick, where's Joe?" Asked a voice. Patrick swivelled round from the chat he was having with some lady that knew Jess from a few years back, to come face to face with Sam, Colby stood right behind.

"Sorry we couldn't make it to the service." Apologised Colby. Patrick just shrugged, he wasn't in the mood for people saying sorry, he'd had enough of that today as it was already.

"I don't know, talking to someone down here." Patrick shrugged, slight nark in his voice.

"Sorry dude, we're sorry about Jess and everything, really we are." Said Sam, noticing the nark in Patrick's voice.

"You aren't. You hardly knew her so how can you be sorry." Patrick hissed, the lady who had been Jess' friend, who went by the name of Yasmine, placed her hand on Patrick's shoulder soothing him a bit.

"Come on Patrick, let's get something to drink, we all miss Jess, even if we didn't know her too well." Yasmine spoke in a smooth voice, guiding Patrick towards the kitchen.

"Dude, we're sorry." Shouted Colby from behind.

"Just go." Whispered Patrick, loud enough for them to hear without turning to face them.

"In other news, I think you may need to rest or something." Frowned Yasmine, taking Patrick by his wrist and lightly dragging him towards the stairs.

"You're sad, everyone's sad and getting some rest will help, now settle down on this bed and I'll come check on you in a bit." Smiled Yas, closing the door to the spare room slowly as if she was trying to not wake a baby.

She was pretty, not gonna lie but that's the sadness talking and the fact that I'm missing Jess, right?
