People think happy poetry is true
Even though it is the opposite
We lie to ourselves
Calling life beautiful and perfect
Happy poetry is not the truth
It is the lie we all wish to believe
Depressing poetry tells the truth
Truth about life and its sorrows
Life isn't nice to all
Only a few escape the clutches
Clutches of pain and misery
They will never understand
Life is actually a demon
It gives us joy and happiness
Then it rips it away
Right when we think it is alright
Life ruins it and tears our hearts out
It makes us cry and scream
Pain, sorrow and misery
They are guaranteed in life
Joy, happiness and comfort
Those are the rare things
Dangled in front of us for a moment
Then right as we reach for it
It's pulled out of our grasp
Without that to support us
We fall to the ground
Nobody is there to catch us
At least most of the time
Then as we land we just lay there
Eyes closed with our face in the dirt
Too scared to look up and face life
Scared to see the truth about life
How it can be gorgeous then cruel
Torturous even
Never comfortable and perfect
That is the lie about life
So lift your heads and look
Look at what life really is
Don't just live in fear of reality
Actually live in reality
So even when you think
As you read depressing poems
That those lives are only for some
Think again because you're wrong
It's the truth about almost everyone
Some have it worse than others
But we all experience some pain
Whether it be a loved one dying
Or having to leave behind friends
We all experience pain and sorrow
Though we refuse to accept it
It shall always be the truth
Some of us understand it
While others just ignore it
So next time you read happy poetry
Remember how many lies those tell
And when you read depressing poetry
Remember how truthful those are
Happy shall always lie
Pain shall always tell the truth
Whether you like it or not it is reality
We will all discover it
Eventually
