The awkward silence. The still atmosphere."Can you at least say something?" I ask her.
But nothing comes. She continues to look out the window as if no one had said anything.
"Chelsea."
"Did someone say something?" She looks around, her eyes passing over me like I was a ghost.
"Can you at least tutor me like you're supposed to?" I ask.
"..."
"If you're not going to talk to me, then I'll talk to you. Okay?" She continues to look out the window. "I was wrong alright? I accused you of doing something that meant nothing because I thought you did it with George." I mumble his name.
"What was that?" She asks, not moving.
"I thought you did it with George." I say slightly louder.
"Hm?"
"I thought you kissed George."
She whips her head around, eyes as wide as saucers. For a split second I think she's going to slap me, but instead she just laughs.
"I heard you the first time. I can't believe you thought I kissed George." She giggles.
"I know, I was wrong and didn't hear the full story. I'm sorry- I'm sorry for accusing you and not letting you explain, I'm sorry for not thinking of your feelings and I'm sorry for hurting you in any way."
"Alright."
"That's it?"
"What do you need to learn?" She leans over and examines my textbooks.
"Chelsea!"
"You expect me to forgive you over that? Two sentences. Fred, I have become a dysfunctional mess, and you expect forgiveness for that?"
"I... I-"
"Don't know? Fine then, come find me when you do." You packs up her books and walks out.
What am I doing?
She's right, Fred. You shouldn't just expect forgiveness for that lame apology.
But what can I do?
...
"How was tutoring?" George asks as I walk in to the Common Room.
"I... didn't get any." I lie on the back of the couch, sliding down in between George and Aerrow.
"Why?"
"I'll tell you later."
"You know." Heather begins. "You keep saying that but we never hear the full story."
I look around to see if Erin's here, but luckily she's not.
"Okay, but you can't say anything." They all nod, eager like little children. "Gideon kissed Chelsea. I found out but thought she kissed George, said all these idiotic things that I didn't mean and I tried apologizing this evening when I found out McGonagall made her my tutor but I did it the wrong way and now she's more pissed at me." I say hastily, struggling for a breath.
Stunned silence is all I hear.
"Wait... you thought she kissed George?" Parker looks up from his comic book with a smirk. I eye him.
"Not the point. Guys, I need help."
We spend an hour spewing out ideas, not very good ones mind you.
