Finally the day had come. The day I get out of this place and finally see daylight. I haven't seen daylight in over three years when we were separated.
I gently tossed the thin piece of fabric off me and sat up in the somewhat comfortable bed stretching. I stood and walked to the small closet that held a little amount of clothing. I can't decide what I want to wear today because each of us girls has a uniform for their category. Mine is a neon orange tank top with the word 'Love' in bold black ink spread across the front and cut off denim shorts. I slipped on the pair of converse just in time when the door to the room slammed open.
I gasped and whipped my head towards it. The man smirked wickedly and walked towards me. He took a rough hold of my arm and pulled me towards him and out the door. He dragged me down the hallway, down two flights of stairs, and finally out a door that lead outside.
The sudden light made me squint my eyes, but I took it in happily. Birds chirped, the slight chilly breeze blew, and the sky was cloudless and blue. I breathed in the fresh scent of rain and smiled widely.
I was snapped from my mini daydream when I was shoved on the ground by the train door. I slowly stood and brushed off the gravel from my scraped and now bloody knees, huffing. I looked back up and glared at the man only to receive a hard slap to my cheek that caused my face to turn and fall to the ground once more. Tears sprung in my eyes from impact, but I kept them at bay and stood tall and confident. I will not show them weakness under any circumstances because that is what they wish for and I will not give them what they wish.
"Amelia." I stepped onto the old train after having a blue ink with a number stamped onto my right hand. I looked down at it to see that it read '936'. I am not a number.
I looked back up to see everyone else was already placed on the bus. I looked around for familiar brown curls, blonde waves, and brown waves.
"Amelia!" I heard someone calling my name and finally made eye contact with warm green eyes. I ran up to her and hugged her tightly. "Charis, how are you?" She pulled away and smiled slightly. "Alright I suppose. Nervous as ever." I nodded in agreement and grabbed her right hand to see the number stamped in green. '915'. I looked down at her uniform to see 'Companion' printed in bold white ink on the red of the tank top. "You got the category." She smiled and nodded somewhat happy.
"Charis! Amelia!" We looked up to see Dani and Claire coming towards us. We hopped up and enveloped each other in group hugs. I checked Danis number. '873'. I then checked Claire's number. '931'. They each had the category they wished for printed in bold ink across their different colored tank tops. "I'm so happy we could see each other again before today." They all smiled and nodded in agreement before we sat down and prepared for the long journey to the rest of our lives.
