I kept running and running, tears rolling down my face. I can't forget the fact that I saw Amy Rivers kissing Matt. My Matt. Well, then again, its not like he's my boyfriend or anything, but it hurts. And he kissed her back. Who does that?
I didn't know where I was going until I fell onto soft, green grass. My vision was blurry, but I wiped my eyes to see a big field.
"Uh . . . guys, can we take a water break? I'll be there in a sec," a familiar voice said. I cursed in my head and tried to lift myself up, but instead I fell to the ground in one big heap.
"Here, let me help you," Chris Parker murmured, pulling me up as if I weigh nothing. I brushed off my jeans and frowned angrily at him.
"I didn't need your help. I was just fine getting up on my own," I mustered.
"Didn't seem that way. You looked dead."
I ignored Chris's comment and started towards the parking lot, which was a long walk. I don't know how I ran this far.
"Wait! Come back!" he yelled. I was already almost to the bleachers. I turned.
"Why should I come back?"
"Because . . . I need to apologize," Chris said.
I tilted my head at him and, as if in a trance, looked at him like he was a normal person, not a heartthrob. The messy, blonde hair made him look as if he was a child, and the blue eyes looked so warm and forgiving. How could anyone not like him? But then I snapped out of my trance. One, he has a girlfriend and I hate her. Two, he posted a picture of me on the school website. Three, he wants me to fall for him.
"Thanks for the apology, but I have to be going now," I turned, starting the trek.
"Can I just know your name?"
I paused and smiled to myself. Then I turned to face him one last time.
"Katie. Katie Marlon."
