Chris's POV
Katie's face turned pale. I touched her cheek, and she felt cold.
"Katie, what's wrong?" I pulled the blanket out from under me and covered her.
"Why are you breaking up with Amy? Did she do something?" she mumbled.
"No, I just thought . . . well, I want you to be my girlfriend," I said. She shook her head, frowning.
"Chris, we just met. And I even told you that I wasn't gonna date for a while. I just got over Matt, and even though I might have some feelings for you, they need to be set aside."
I felt my eyes water. No. I can't cry. I'm a man. I touched her cheek and leaned in to kiss her, but Katie pulled away.
"Stay with Amy," Katie whispered. I took her hands in mine and played with the little ring on her finger. When I looked up, a single tear had made its way down her cheek.
"Can we at least hang out? Please? I don't know what I'd do without you," I said. She gave me a shaky smile and slid off the bed.
"Take care of that nose," Katie waved. She was already half-way out of the room when she turned to look at me. Then she said the thing that made me love her.
"I didn't regret that kiss either."
