Chapter 22 : Skyfall

There are some things you may want to know before I go any further; the GTT or Gothenburg Travel Tower is like a space elevator. Its height reaches up to the Thermosphere which is about 90 km high. (That's nearly 300,000 ft for you, Imperial system users)

It is a public transportation system which allows people to travel from one Space Elevator to the next. Humanity searched for a way to travel in a safe and quick manner and the GTT along with many others are the answer to that. How it works is that at the very top of the tower is a station, from that station, space airships carry passengers across space and into the next station.

And I, unfortunately, was near the Thermosphere of the tower, perhaps about 80 km high. So when I was in that kind of situation, I had no idea what to do. I just kept on falling and falling, hoping that Zack would somehow save me but that time never came. It seemed as if Sweden was a small island compared to the whole world, it overwhelmed me to see Earth as big as it is. I was only a small dot compared to the size of the world.

I then heard a familiar, feminine voice, "Zack, isn't coming, you know? He could try but he won't reach you in time."

I looked around frantically, left, right down then up. I turned behind me to see, Shiro crossing her feet, with her head resting on her hands as if falling from this height didn't mean anything to her.

"Shiro, what the hell are you doing!? Why did you take me up here!? Take me back to the ground, please!" I demanded, aggressively.

"Relax, will ya? We're 80 kilometers up from the ground, it'll take hours for us to reach the ground." Shiro's hair flailed and wavered as she then positioned herself like she was lying on her belly with her head resting on both of her hands. "So, I heard you're the newbie who has recently become a CoDa. I didn't expect you to be the panicking and aggressive type."

I exclaimed in annoyance, "anyone would panic in a situation like this! I'm falling from a god dang space elevator; which is 80 km high! Plus, you don't just up and teleported a newbie from a high place and expect them to make it through with a snap of a finger, that's just Selfishne-Uwah!" I lost my sense of balance and began to start rotating continuously forward without any control. I yielded and flailed trying to stay still in one position.

I felt my head spin when I suddenly felt a grip on my legs as I was back to a still position, I sighed in relief as I looked over to see Shiro holding me still with a entertained expression, I spoke out again, "you think this is funny, huh? Le-"

"Again, relax, taking it out on me will do you no good. How about we have a small chat?" Shiro interrupted, this time crossing her legs and facing me.

"Tch, you could've ju-"

Shiro grabbed onto my shirt and pulled me in as she spoke in a grim tone, "stop complaining or else I'll leave you out here to die." I felt intimidated by her looks as she loosened her grip. "Now then, I'd like to ask you something."

I paused before asking, "wh-what is it?"

"Have you had any dreams related to Oaths or Promises when you became a CoDa?" Shiro asked persuasively.

Oaths or Promises? I thought to myself. I couldn't remember a single thing about what she had mentioned, confused as I replied, "what the hell are you talking about? I didn't get any dream like that at all."

She was taken aback by my answer and gazed deep into my eyes, into my soul. She mumbled, "You aren't lying..." She spoke out, "Well, that's all I really wanted to ask personally, now let us move on to the real reason why you're up here." She then took hold of my hand. I felt the same feeling once more, a moment of air being sucked into a vacuum, every molecule in my body began to break into pieces as it then reappeared somewhere else.

It seemed like a slow process in my head but in reality, it all happened in a blink of an eye. It's hard to believe something like that can even work, how the perception of time is so jumbled up during teleportation; but that's what I saw and what I felt, so I had no choice but to believe it.

We both reappeared near the GTT, but this time, a little closer to the ground. Instead of being 80 km high, we were only about 10 to 20 km up from the ground. (32,808 - 65,616 feet)

Now, Sweden seemed much bigger than it was from 80 km high, it seemed like a giant field of green and silver mixed together

Now, Sweden seemed much bigger than it was from 80 km high, it seemed like a giant field of green and silver mixed together. It's truly beautiful to look at. Shiro took my attention away from the ground, "Nathan, How about we do a race?"

"What!?" I exclaimed. She's crazy, she's definitely mad crazy.

"Yeah, a race. First one to reach the ground wins," she spoke in an optimistic tone.

"Wha-No! You can teleport but I can't, once I reach the ground, I'll be dead!" I tried to reason while in panic.

"You're a CoDa with a rare ability, I'm sure you'll find out a way to make it out alive. Oh, and I'll play fair, I won't use my teleportation ability in this race. Okay, ready? Set-"

"You serious!? Don't just decide for yourself, Woman! Help me out instead!" I persuaded.

"'Kay, I'll give you a hint, Fly," she spoke, winking at me. "Ready? Set-"

"Whoa! Wai-" I shouted out for her.

"-GO!" Shiro signaled as she moved her body near the wall of the tower. Once her feet touched the metallic structure, she bent her knees and began sprinting in inhumane speed. In mere seconds, she was too far for me to see.

I stared down at the ground, my heart sank in despair as my breathing quickly, "I am so dead."

Thank you for reading the 22nd chapter of The CoDas. After I receive some feedback on this chapter and fix any flaws on it, I will move on to the next in an instant.

I was initially thinking to add some high-speed action for this chapter but I figured to save it for the next one since I wanted to give some more 'screen time' for Shiro in this chapter.

Anyways, Don't forget to vote for this chapter if you liked it and be sure to share it with your friends.
