A loud thud was echoed through the house. Jasmine was woken up by the noise.
"Julio," she whispered, "Wake up."
She shook him a little and he woke up.
"Wha..." Julio said dazed.
"I think someone broke in," she told him, "Go check."
"OK," Julio said.
He got out of bed and walked over to the bedroom door. He opened it and looked into the hallway.
"There's no one out here," Julio said.
"That's just the hallway," Jasmine said, "Look around the house."
"Ugh..." Julio said, "but I wanna go back to sleep."
"If you die in your sleep it's not my fault," Jasmine said.
"Fine," Julio said, "I'll go check."
Julio walked out of the bedroom and headed down the stairs. When he reached the bottom, he looked around.
No one here, he thought.
He headed towards the kitchen and saw an open drawer. He looked inside and noticed they were utensils.
"I bet your head really hurts," someone said.
"It's red and it hurts," said another, "I was winning too."
Julio tiptoed towards the living room. As he neared, he saw the TV on and two guys sitting on the couch with bowls of cereal in their hands.
"You ran into the house," said one of the two, "You still won the race. I'm just surprised you didn't wake anyone up."
"You woke one person up," Julio said, "and that person woke me up."
"Sorry Julio," Rodrigo said, "Toby ran into the house."
Toby turned around.
"See?" he said while pointing to the bright red mark on his forehead.
"Ouch," Julio said.
"So did you ever get a ring?" asked Toby.
"I did," Julio said, "And I got a whole explanation on why we were chosen."
"Really?" said Rodrigo.
"Yeah. The Green Lantern gave me the ring," Julio started, "The reason we've been chosen was because a threat bigger than anything before is coming to the planet. We have to work together to unite all the Lantern Corps to take down this threat. Us four shall unite the Corps and take down the threat."
"I don't think you made through elementary school," Rodrigo said, "cause there is only three of us."
"Luis also got a ring," Julio said.
"Sweet!" Toby said happily.
"Yeah," Julio said, "Well I'm going back to sleep."
"It's barely eight thirty six," Rodrigo said.
"I don't care," Julio said, "Good night."
He walked back up the stairs.
"Well I'm gonna go chill with Naudia," Toby said happily, "Night Rody!"
Toby also took off up the stairs. Rodrigo grabbed the empty cereal bowls and took them into the kitchen. He washed them and walked back to the couch. Rodrigo noticed Stephanie was sitting there.
"Hey," Rodrigo said.
"Hi," Stephanie said, "Who won the race?"
"Toby did," Rodrigo answered, "He rammed his face into the house though. He's got a big red mark on his forehead now."
"That must hurt," Stephanie said.
Rodrigo grabbed the remote and changed the channel to Channel Five News. Stephanie leaned on him.
"Today in downtown Detroit," the anchorman said, "A subway car exploded in a fiery explosion. The cause is unknown and the police are questioning nearby residents."
"Damn it Toby," Rodrigo whispered, "Look what you did. Luckily we don't live near there."
After about an hour, Stephanie was fast asleep on Rodrigo's shoulder.
"Well, time for bed," he said.
He picked up Stephanie bridal style and carried her to their room. He laid her on the bed and tucked her in. Rodrigo then went back downatairs to turn off the lights and TV.
He walked past the kitchen table and saw someone sitting down. Rodrigo turned off the TV and walked back to the kitchen. The woman sitting there saw him.
"Hello Rodrigo," she said, "Remember me?"
"No," he replied, "Should I?"
"You don't remember me now," she said, "But you'll never forget me after this."
She grabbed him and they disappeared from the kitchen.
