"you're actually going through with this?" Midori says shocked.

"well, it's my best way to observe and learn more about him."

"are you getting paid?" Brandon asks

"no, do I make you pay me when I help you?"

"no, but we're friends. he's an average!" He points over to Marks rowdy table.

"Brandon, you can't just hate someone because they are average. Anyway, I can change him into something more than average. This is my chance to begin making a change to all the students, soon we will be the best high school in the country if everyone begins to get good grades, and it could all start with Mark."

"Slow down there Jack, there's like 1,500 students here, and the freshman change each year and the freshman class grows each year. And from what i'm seeing, they care less and less about school as the generations go on." I sigh, Nat has a point. for heaven sakes. i'm losing faith in humanity, all some of these people know is smoking weed and teen pregnancy.

"Well, I can still hope and try."

"Good luck with that."

*time skip*

2:30 School was finally released for the day and I wait at the entrance door to the school for Mark to arrive. I watch as everyone walks to the bus stop, piles into their friend's car, walks home, or gets into their parent's vehicle. Soon, the school is quiet, a few students remain including myself. I wait and I wait and I wait. I pull out my phone.

2:45 Maybe he's talking to a teacher? Maybe going to tell Principal Anderson that we're starting this today? But he's taking oddly long, I don't have much time for this.

I wait patiently for him, time is ticking and i'm growing more impatient as time goes on. I check my phone again.

3:00 does he not realize time is a sensitive thing?? The doors to the school bust open and Mark and his group walk out chatting up a storm, I fold my arms and stare at him annoyed.

"Bye guys! see you tomorrow!" his friends wave goodbye as they begin to walk away, continuing their conversation. Mark looks at me.

"What? did I do something wrong?"

"yes. you did."

"well what did I do?"

"i'll let you figure it out, a little hint: it was something I was worried about this morning." I said in an annoyed tone, he stands there confused.

"you know what Mark, let's just go to the library and get this over with." I hope he is at least trying to figure out what he did wrong. we walk over to the library and find a corner table to sit at.

"why couldn't we just go to the nearby Starbucks to study and do work?"

"it leaves too much room for distraction. that's where everyone goes and i'm sure you know a lot of people, there's also the distraction of food and drinks, also the noise factor in there is horrendous."

"oh..."

"okay, you had math, Japanese, PE, and English today. Correct?"

"yes."

"well let's start with math since that was the first subject today." Mark brings out his messy solid black bag and opens it up and an avalanche of papers come out. He begins to dig through the pile until he finds the math worksheet given to us today.

"How do you find anything in here Mark??!"

"I have a system going! i'll find the worksheet. just give me some time."

"well, before we start, a good learner always is organized and neat." I stand up and grab my wallet and walk over to the front desk of the library.

"hi Ms. Ash, are you still selling folders with sheet dividers?" Ms. Ash the sweet old little librarian turns around and greets me with a sweet little smile.

"oh Jack! of course, how many of each?"

"2 folders and 8 dividers." She grabs the materials from under the desk and places them on the desk, I give her the money and she puts it away.

"who's the boy you're with Jack?"

"oh him?" I turn and see Mark still digging through paper mountain. "he's a student i'm helping."

"I see, trying to make an educational difference again?"

"that and I really want to help him. I know he can do a lot, he just needs a little push to do it."

"knowing you little Jack, I know you'll be able to succeed, and who knows, maybe this could be a change for you too." Ms. Ash smiles and I smile back. I grab everything and walk back over to Mark. I place the folders and dividers down on the table, he gives me a confused look.

"what's all of this for?" I roll my eyes.

"to organize your bag obviously. let's start organizing everything according to class period and subject." Mark slumps in his seat and lets out a huge sigh.

"Do I have to??"

"Well, I mean, you don't have to, I guess i'll pack up my stuff and watch your grades plummet." I grab my bag, but Mark was quick to grab my arm.

"no, please, Jack." He looks at me with glazed eyes, pleading.

"just what I thought. start organizing then!" Mark was quick to begin to sort out everything in his piles.

*half an hour later*

After sorting, organizing, and filing, we had 2 folders neatly organized with all of his subject works and notes. I think Mark did a fairly good job cleaning everything up. The things that made his bag seem so big was crumpled up papers of sketches he made. One in particular caught my eye, it was a green colored eye with a blue iris, it was well detailed and drawn, I was blown away.

"Hey Mark, what's this drawing." Mark looks up from all of his work and smiles lightly seeing that I liked his work.

"oh! while we were in health class I heard a condition called septic, it can happen in your eye when it gets infected and it turns green. I know it sounds super gross, but it motivated me to draw something." He actually learned something, through drawing! I'm starting to learn more and more about him, which made me happy. It seems a new thing I learned is that he is a visual learner. He learns through drawings and visuals.

"You should draw your notes more often, it seems like you absorb more facts when you sketch it out and draw it, and from what I an see, you do some amazing work Mark."

"you really think it's amazing?" I nod my head looking through all of his drawings.

"well, I guess I should then!" He lights up and seems to be beaming at this point, it made me happy to see him happy.

I continued to look through his drawings and asking questions about his thought process and inspiration. They all came from information he heard during each lesson, and he remembers every detail of the lesson too.

"I also have one more question." Mark's head shoots up once more.

"yes?"

"Do you know why I was mad at you when this session first started?" Mark looks to the ceiling, possibly thinking and remembering. Finally he looks back, like he had a sudden epiphany.

"I was late! is that what it was?" I nod.

"yes, it was, so what will you not do now?"

"not be late and socialize with all of my friends and find you in front of the school immediately after school?"

"precisely. lesson learned?"

"lesson learned." Mark goes back to working on his homework. It's only the first day of tutoring, I can already see a lot of improvement in him. Let's just hope this continues.
