"That's it for today." I look at Mark, who seems really burnt out. I check over at the clock, I knew for sure we went over the one hour time limit I had set. I'm scared to go home and see how my parents react to this.
4:30 for sure my parents are going to kill me. But it's not their business to know what i'm doing, besides, it's not like i'm snorting cocaine or shooting up heroine.
"Thanks for the help today Jack. Same time tomorrow?" He says scratching the back of his neck. This was one of his nervous ticks, but I don't know what he's nervous about.
"of course. But hopefully tomorrow you will be ON TIME so we won't have to be here this late again." I gather my things and place them into my bag and begin to walk out of the library. Mark was following close behind.
We walk from the library and reach the parking lot of the school and I begin to walk down the sidewalk towards the bus stop. I check the time to see when the next bus comes.
4:40
"Hey! Jack!" I turn to see Mark at his silver Prius hollering for me. "If you want I can drive you home." I blush a bit, no one has ever offered me a ride home. I would be able to drive and have my license if I wasn't so focused on my school studies. I often regret not going through with the process but I felt like it was a distraction.
"oh... th-thanks." I walk over to his car and get into the passenger seat. "Are you sure Mark? i'm very capable of catching the bus, it's kind of a long drive..." Mark adjusts his rear view mirror and smiles over at me.
"You've done so much for me already Jack, let me do something for you." He backs out of the stall and we begin our journey. Something odd I learned today is that Mark doesn't play music in his car, it made me anxious for some reason and I felt awkward.
"um, Jack, if you want to play your music you can. I can see you getting antsy over there. I know how you feel about your music." I was quick to grab the AUX chord and plug in my music.
"hey, are you sure you want to listen to my music?" I say pushing up my glasses on my face, he chuckles.
"I don't mind what we listen to." I smile and shuffle my music and Clint Eastwood by Gorillaz comes on.
"Hey! I love this song!"
I ain't happy,
I'm feeling glad.
I got sunshine,
In a bag.
I'm useless,
But not for long,
The future is coming on,
It's coming on,
It's coming on,
It's coming on.We both sang along, but when it came down to the rapping verses, I knew every word. It took Mark by surprise when I rapped it out perfectly, I turned into a whole different person.
"Finally someone let me out of my cage, now time for me is nothing cuz i'm counting no age. No I couldn't be there, now you shouldn't be scared, i'm good at repairs, and i'm under each snare. Intangible, bet you didn't think so I command you to. Panoramic view. look i'll make all manageable. pick and choose, sit and loose all you different crews, chicks and dudes who you think is really kickin tunes. Picture you getting down in a picture tube, like you lit the fuse, you think it's fictional. Mystical. maybe. spiritual and hearable who appears to you to clear your view when your too crazy. lifeless. to those the definition for what life is. priceless to you because I put you on the hype shit. don't like it, gun smokin righteous with one token. psychic among those possess you with one go!"
Mark was wide eyed and smiling with his jaw dropped. He lowers the volume and I pause the music.
"What was that Jack?"
