「Chapter 9」

"You did what?!?" Midori looks like she's ready to pop a blood vessel when I told them what I had done the precious day.

"it's not doing any harm. It's just me preventing my father from killing me!"

"well he's gonna find out sooner or later, you can't lie about it forever." Nat says calmly.

"it's just a white lie."

"I don't think I like this new attitude Jack. It took only 4 days for that Mark kid to corrupt you." Brandon says with a scowl.

"It's just a white lie! it's not like i'm covering up a murder!" I felt anger welling up inside of me, if I had told the truth, I would be dead by now! To me it seems they would rather have me grounded.

"actually you are. the murder of your reputation." That was the breaking point of this discussion.

"You know what you guys, I thought you would be happy that I managed to find a way out of a major beating from my father, sure I lied and that's not good, but it was to save myself from further abuse. I don't expect much from you guys, I just want some sympathy and emotion to be shown. i'm just gonna go and eat with Mark today."

"There he goes. Rambling again." I grab my lunch tray and begin to walk away to avoid anymore argument.

The last thing I heard was from Brandon: "Pretty soon he'll be average. Just like them."

it hurt. a lot.

I approached Mark from behind and tapped him on the shoulder while putting on a fake smile. The whole table stared at me and Mark turned around.

"Hey Jack! what's up?"

"nothing really... just thought I would like to get to know some of your friends! They seem like cool people." I look around at everyone, they all had very welcoming smiles. It was a large but small group, and they all seemed to get along. unlike my friends.

"Well welcome aboard dude." Danny had said.

"Yeah come sit down!" Arin chimed in. Mark had made room next to him so I could sit down. I look around again and see everyone had still had their eyes on me.

"Sorry if this seems rude, but I don't think i've ever met you." Danny said questionably.

"Oh no it's fine. I like to fly under the radar I suppose. My name is Jack."

"Nice to meet you! I'm Danny, this here is Arin, Felix, Ken, and Cry. Once in a while Ross and Barry will come around... Bob and Wade used to be here, but they moved to Cincinnati last year. The ladies that are sometimes here is Marzia, Felix's girlfriend. Mary, Ken's girlfriend. Suzy, Arin's girlfriend. Holly, Ross' girlfriend. I think that's everyone.... Right?" Mark nods. "well then that's everyone! glad to have you here man!"

That was so much more people than I thought. I guess I haven't really looked close enough to see everyone that is in this group.

"these are my friends Jack. I've told them about you and what you've done for me already!" Hearing Mark day that, it made me feel important, like I was accepted and wanted.

"Yeah! you seem like a cool man! cooler than Arin that's for sure."

"DAN! I AM SO COOL WHAT ARE YOU SAYING?!" We all bust out laughing at how offended Arin seemed by that single comment.
