A/N: I made this chapter pretty long just for you guy!! also, I had people tell me I should actually put trigger warnings in these things (i'm sorry if I have accidentally triggered you before, it was me not thinking and I would never want to do that to you, it wasn't my intention). So trigger warning: talk of abusive relationships.
The lunch bell rings, releasing me from this wretched Algebra 2 lecture. Honestly, I have a feeling that I will potentially never use half of the things that I learn in math class. I don't want to become an engineer or a mathematician, so what's the point?
Since I didn't care about the math lesson, all I could think about was Mark and that girl. She was stone cold, but somehow seemed "sweet" at the same time. she had two faces, I could tell, one was the one she used to trick people, the other was the one that broke people.
she was one of those people who you think you could trust, she could tell you one story, then you would hear the same story from someone else again, but it's twisted a different way. She could talk shit about someone, then be hanging out with them the very next day. You could never tell if she was lying or telling the truth.
I sat down at the lunch table, leaving a spot open for Mark as usual. I wait and I wait for him, I engage in the conversations with other, but something felt off. It doesn't take Mark 15 minutes or more to get here, I need to find him, something has to be wrong.
"Jack, do you know where Mark is?" Danny looks at me concerned, pushing his curls out of his face and tucking it behind his ear.
"no, but i'm gonna go and find him." I stand up leaving everything at the table. "watch my stuff for me please." I exit out of the cafeteria and enter the hall. what class did Mark have last? I try my hardest to remember as I walk the empty halls.
English! that's what he had! I walk through the winding halls to find the room, I open the door and I see Mark there, sitting with Sierra. She feeds him a bite of cake, there was sweat glistening on his forehead, and he had a nervous look in his eyes, like he was on edge.
"oh hey Jack." Sierra said flatly greeting me with a sneer look and wrapping her arms around Mark's large upper arm.
"Sierra." I say with the same flat tone that she gave me, I narrow my eyes to her and look back at Mark, who looked scared. "Mark, why aren't you at lunch?"
"isn't it obvious grass head? he's helping me with this assignment." She holds up a copy of William Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream. A very good literary piece, slightly all over the place. But that's besides the point.
"I'm sorry, I didn't know your name was Mark." I said with a snarky tone. She glares and me, I could feel her eyes puncturing me, but I ignored it.
"S-sorry Jack, I um, I just was chosen by Ms. Garner to help her..." Mark said trying to get the words out, but fumbling over them.
"well it's okay. Just be sure to be at the library after school." Mark plasters a fake smile onto his face. I stood there for a bit, trying to figure out a way to get him away from her. Sierra clears her throat.
"oh baby! you have some frosting on your face." she smears a small bit of frosting just below his lower lip, "don't worry, let me get it for you." she licks off the frosting and smiles devilishly at me, knowing i'm fuming. Mark's face contorts in disgust. She kisses his lower jaw.
"y-you could have used a napkin..."
"I know." I want to say something but I won't. I'll wait another day to attack her, I need to find the right words first to make sure I get my point across.
