I was on a bookstore looking for a certain book when a girl who was silently crying in the corner got my attention, especially the book she's reading. It's the book that I've been looking for!
I went near her and asked why she was crying.
"I'm just like the girl in the story, being bullied," she said wiping her tears. She looked like she was 14.
"Come on, I'll treat you for dinner and I'll tell you a story." I stood up before helping her to get up. I found myself comfortable with her because somewhat, I was her.
She was in shock for a moment. Who wouldn't? She had only met me a few minute ago. And I just found out that she's alone. But I assured her that I'm not bad.
When she felt comfortable, she put the book back in the shelf and we went to a fast food nearby.
We found a table for two. We ordered our food and ate.
"I was bullied during my high school years" I started. "Throughout my four years in high school, I was alone. I had friends, yes, but I can't call them as my best friends." I paused for a moment. "We became friends because they needed me. They needed my help. And I didn't have a choice that time because whenever I didn't help them, they either played with my stuffs or made me look like a fool." I sighed as I remembered those years.
"I tried to fit in but then I realized, why do I have to when I was born to stand out?" I said and looked at the girl.
"Oh," was all she could utter.
"Senior year came when they realized that those groups were just useless. They're with someone they thought were real when in fact those people just need someone which can stand for them because they couldn't stand on their own. They realized that you don't have to be someone when you can just be you, and people will like you. "
"So what happened?"
"The groups were gone and we became united as one. Gone the competitiveness and the pretending. It's like we've got out of each other's cages."
"That's all because of you." She smiled. "Wait, are you ---"
I just smiled.
"You wrote the book that I've just read!" she exclaimed.
"Hi, I'm Belle," I smiled at her. "Remember the things I've said. And just be you."
