I feel guilty. Seriously. I do. I know Sean loves her, but I realized I love her more. Maybe I've always loved her and never really noticed. Either way, she's mine now.
I filled her in fake memories of dates and special occasions. I told her how we had gone to the movies millions of times. I told her how I brought most of her jewelry and her teddy bears. After she was sent home from the hospital, I came over to her house. Her parents were gone to go consult with the doctor. I sat her on the couch and popped in my favorite movie, The Godfather. I told her I needed to go to the restroom. I went upstairs and found her bedroom. I didn't have much time, but I took anything and everything that said Sean on it and threw it out her window. Earlier that day I set their garbage can right outside her window, so everything fell in. It only took me about 5 minutes. It seemed most of everything he gave her were pictures and poems. It made it easier for me.
I headed back downstairs and sat next to her. I put my arm around her and she rested her head against my chest. About half way into the movie, she asked me, "Who is Sean?"
Surprisingly, she hadn't asked about him since the incident in the hospital.
"He's a new guy who transfered to our school. He's kind of crazy." I swallowed. She didn't seem to notice.
"He feels... familiar. Like, I've met him before. I just can't put my finger on it."
My heart started to race. How do I get her mind off of it?
I pulled her up off of my chest to look into her face. We were eye to eye. Her eyes were warm and innocent. I felt sorry for only a second. I didn't feel sorry anymore when she leaned in and kissed me.
Her lips were soft against mine. I put my hands on her bright red cheeks. I pulled back and leaned my forehead against hers.
I spoke, "Don't worry about him. I won't let him get to you." She smiled and hugged me. That was the first truth I've said for a while. I will make sure he doesn't get to her.
