Part XXXV: The Lucky Gift For The Lucky Charm
The situation definitely got better in the next days that came. They have forgotten what happened during the play and didn't talk much about the things that they needed to say but they can't. They go home together most of the time and he either sends her home or drops her off somewhere.
That Friday night was not different. They went to meet some of Ethan's friends in high school and had dinner with them. Why it was her he went with, she never wanted to ask and just agreed. After dinner, he drove her home. They were still inside his car.
"There's something I ought to give you but I keep on forgetting," he said.
"What is it?"
He reached for a paper bag at the back of his car. "It's quite late but better be late than not keep my promise."
"What's this?" she asked him, holding the paper bag.
"See for yourself," he shrugged.
She opened the paper bag and saw a green cloth inside. She pulled it out of the paper bag and realized it was his jersey.
"Why are you giving me this?"
"Remember our last game? I told you that if we win, I'll give you something. You're my lucky charm. This is my way of thanking and reminding you that you were my main inspiration."
My heart melted.
She blushed. "You're such a flirt."
He laughed. "You like it."
She opened her mouth and was about to protest when she decided not to.
"I'm kidding. Thank you for being my lucky charm. You did your role really well in keeping me motivated. Don't worry, I washed it before I gave it to you. I can't ask you to wear it so I rather decided to give it to you if we win. Souvenir."
"This is the same jersey you wore on that game?"
He nodded. "The white one is with me. Keep it."
She smiled and embraced him. "Thank you."
"You're welcome," he said. She was about to get out of the car when she asked him a question.
"You said I was your inspiration?"
" Yes. Why?"
"Was. Like past tense? Can't we make it present tense? Like 'I am your inspiration'?" she smiled at him, nearly wanting to giggle.
"Now you're flirting."
"Flirt back."
"Seriously?" he laughed.
"I'm just saying."
"Fine. I stand corrected. You inspire me a lot. Daily. Up to this very moment," he surrendered smiling. "Happy?"
"That sounds a lot better," she smiled and went out of the car.
