Part LXX: Running After Your Dreams

"He waited for you."

It made me stop. Oh my, I forgot the main reason why I gatecrashed this party. Where is the guy who was supposed to come be my escort?

"Where is he?"

"He left a few minutes ago. Maybe he's still at the elevator," he said. "He came in without a date. He told Marco that he has one and she should be coming anytime soon. We didn't know it would be you. But then the program already ended and no one showed up."

Holy cow, what did I do?

"What time did the party start?"

"Six. He came in sharp," Chad explained.

"Six?!" I exclaimed. "I thought it was 9?!"

He was clueless at first until he laughed. "Didn't he tell you the tricks?"

"What tricks?!" He was starting to get into my nerves.

"The invitation said 'Twist and Turn Your Fate Around'. You have to turn the invite upside down so the nine becomes six in the evening. No one figured it out at first until Marco realized 9 PM is too late to start a formal party in a hotel," he said.

Crap, crap, crap! I wanted to throw tantrums but it wasn't appropriate. I took a deep breath. I should have realized that too!

"He didn' tell you?"

"No," I admitted.

"He was pissed off when he left. He said that it was nonsense to stay any longer when the party's already done," he said. "He left with Jacob."

"Argh!" I expressed my irritation. "I'll go now though. Thank you for talking to me and letting me know this. And happy graduation. By the way, have a safe trip back to the US."

"Thanks," he said. I turned my back on him to start leaving. "Where are you going?"

"I have to run after him. My time's almost up," I said.

"I'll drive for you."

I hesitated for a while but I need to get a cab as soon as I can and it wouldn't be so easy. It would be awkward but I have to forget it for the meantime.

"Okay. Can we make your car fly?"

*

Good thing I had my seatbelt strapped. When I told him to make his car fly, he did follow me. I actually took my shoes off before we started heading to the parking lot where his car was. He stopped me from running barefoot there so he carried me on his back. I needed to pull my dress up and it was a good thing that it had a long slit that helped me pull it up without any problem.

We were running faster than the maximum allowable speed just so we can track Jacob's car. I was scanning all the cars in front and behind us, and the ones on our sides. He described how Jacob's car looked like. It was a black Lancer EX.

After twenty minutes of driving thru the main road, I saw a moderately running car similar to what Chad described. I pointed it out to him and he drove faster to catch up with them.

We were right. It was Ethan on the passenger seat and Jacob driving. Chad blew the horn of his car repetitively to get their attention.

Jacob glanced and pointed us out to Ethan.

*

He was grim-faced when he saw Raffy with Chad and he signaled Jacob to drive faster and not to mind them. Jacob did and Chad was matching his pace. Good thing there weren't a lot of cars on the road anymore that time.
