Sonic and the Missing Link

Chapter Nine

(Sonic POV)

I groaned when I heard someone open the door. I pulled the pillow over my head, not wanting to talk to anyone.

"It's just me Sonic." Tails said as he gently placed a hand on my shoulder. I relaxed under his touch and pulled the pillow away.

"Hey buddy. What's up?" I sat up a bit, so I could talk to him. I just smiled as he rolled his eyes.

"Well, maybe my big brother has a disease that doesn't have a cure yet." He gave a sad smile. " I still don't understand how you got it, or why it's acting up now."

"Well you know, Nothing can keep me down. I always come through" I pulled him into a hug, not wanting to let go of him just yet. "I always come through..." I felt Tails shudder, and tense. A quiet sob echoed in the room, along with the beeping of the machines. I held him close, trying to stay strong for him. 

Honestly, I don't know if I will come through. I just said that so he wouldn't worry. So, now this was a waiting game. Hopefully this was just a misunderstanding.

Tails fell asleep in my arms, I wa glad I wasn't going to be alone. I felt tired, but I was sick of sleeping. The drugs they had me on made my chest hurt less, but I still continued to get coughing fits. Sighing, I tried to focus my mind on other things. The only thing that came into focus was Shadow. I wasn't going to be able to see him... I felt my heart break as I realized this. I couldn't stress... Don't stress Sonic...

(Tails POV)

I was stirred awake from a loud and fast beeping sound.

"H-hm?..." Sonic was shaking violently, and his grip tightening around me. "Sonic." I tried to break free. "Sonic, listen to me. Calm down." He shook his head.

"N-No.. Have to see.. Shadow" He was twitching now. He was obviously not control of himself. His pupils were slits and his teeth started to sharpen. I shoved off of him, and tried to snap some sense into him.

"Sonic. Calm down. Please, you'll get to see him. I don't know when" He growled, his face began to stretch and form a muzzle. He panted and started to get up, getting into a growling dog position. I heard his bones cracking as his body grew, fur growing all over him. Sonic's gown started to rip. I cringed at the sound and backed up. He slowly started to walk towards me as he transformed, pulling the machines with him. "Sonic... Please. Don't do this..." He seemed to snap back into reality, only to look around, scared. He rushed to the window, jumping through the glass, breaking the machines that were still connect to him. "Sonic!"

We were on the second floor, I rushed over, stepping on broken glass. Sonic was laying on his side, slowly getting up. People around were scared, taking pictures and getting close to him. No, get away, he'll attack when he's cornered. Sonic shook his head and looked at the people, growling as he back up. People still continued to get close, right before he lunged at them, biting and ripping at their skin. I gasp, Sonic.. Stop it. Everyone was running and scream, Sonic ran off once he heard sirens. He must be going home.

Nurses burst into the room, as I quickly faced them. My eyes were wide, I was terrified of what Sonic could do. And what could happen to him, everyone thought that the wolf was dead for months, but now... I pushed past them and ran down the stairs, trying to get home before he could do more damage. Everywhere was chaos, children crying for their moms and dads, screams echoed, cars driving away as fast as they could, and people getting pushed and stampeded over. I got to my car, and tried to get out of the parking lot, without hitting pedestrians. Sighing, I slowly got out and tried to get home as fast as I could. Only for traffic to be backed up by something. This traffic isn't gonna clear soon, and I need to get home to find Sonic. Sighing, I could back up or something? I slammed my hand onto the wheel and drove over the curb onto the sidewalk. I don't care right now. I drove thru the grass and dodged people and trees, until I was back on the road. Time to get home. Sonic had to be close by now, or even home by the time I do. Where was Silver? He was just here not to long ago, did he go to the future or what?

Pulling up to the house, surprised that is was silent. Slowly, I walked up to the house, finding the door still locked. Was he not here yet? Maybe he tried the back, and was already with Shadow. I rushed through the house, finding Sonic laying on his side with Shadow, out of the pool. Shadow had Sonic's head in his lap, softly petting him. Sonic wasn't moving, and he didn't look like he was breathing either. Was I too late?...
