Sonic and the Missing Link

Chapter Eighteen

Minutes turned to hours, and hours turned to days. Sonic was an emotional wreck as he waited. He hardly ate, and rarely left the house. Sonic wanted to be there when Shadow or Silver returned. He wanted answers and he wanted them now.

As soon as Silver knocked on the door, it opened to reveal a very stressed Sonic. Silver sighed as Mephiles looked away.

"Sonic... before you start." Silver held up a hand, "Can we just come inside.. We just got here and I would like to sit down."

"Alright.. But please.. Promise me you'll answer my questions." Sonic almost felt heartbroken when they didn't reply.

"We'll try our best Sonic.." Mephiles softly said, saddened to see the male so distress.

Tails had made up some calming tea, to release the tensention. Silver refused to talk till he got some. To Sonic it felt like an eternity before the tea was ready, and he couldn't wait.

"Silver, you said he'd be back by now.." Sonic softly spoke, as he could tell Silver was very tired. Mephiles even seemed concerned, but he was able to keep it under a cool facade.

"You know that the future always changes Sonic. And I can't temper with it anymore then I already have." Silver smiled lightly, "I'm sure he'll just be a little longer." 

"But isn't there a way you can tell if he's okay or not." Sonic urged.

"Sonic, my hands are tied."

"You promised me Silver! Can we like go there or something? Just to see?"

"It's not like we can just pop down there Sonic. It's thousands of feet below the surface of water. And they do not take light to strange people in their kingdom." Mephiles spoke before Silver got the chance.

"Kingdom? How come you know so much about them?" Sonic was lost already in the conversation. He thought there was only a small town or village of these people.

"I-I... I just do. Okay? Shadow will be fine. My brother return in a few days time." Mephiles sighed, and mentally slapped himself as he just spilled more information.

"Brother...? But aren't you from the future?" Sonic was even more confused, as Silver comes from like thousand of years from the future. Silver nodded, letting Mephiles continue talking.

"I'm actually from your time." Mephiles groaned when Sonic still didn't get it. "I'm over a thousand years old Sonic. But in my peoples age, I am roughy in my late 20's."

"So you're like really old and so is Shadow?" Mephiles scoffed when he was called old.

"If thats what helps you understand better. Yes. And that's why I can't take you there. My past self is there, and i can't ever go there unless i'm in my proceeding timeline."

"But you can tell me how to get there."

"Sonic, no human can survive that deep below water. Only my kind knows how to get back to home. I'm sorry. I just can't.."

"I... Understand." Sonic still had so many questions to ask, but at least the main one was answered. He could take off some of the pressure, just by knowing Shadow was okay.

"Alright... So, I must prepare you Sonic. As the future always changes, you might see me with Shadow. But I will be confused and I won't be able to understand your language. I have never met you, so don't become confused or scared. It will only scare him more." Mephiles rubbed his temples as in trying to think. "I think I covered everything."

"This is just a possibility though Sonic. It might not even happen." Silver added, helping Sonic understand.

"O-Okay. So I may or may not met you? Got it." Sonic sounded confident but he was still confused.
