Chapter 15

(Sonic's POV)

The doctor said I was fine to go home today, surprised that I still knew how to walk from the coma. Man, was I really in one? I can't believe it's 2017... The last I remember is something with Uncle Chuck, and I tumbled down a hill, then here I am.

Tails said Uncle Chuck passed away a few years ago, but for some reason it didn't hit me hard. It felt like I already knew he was dead. And the man... God, he got hit by a truck full force. Silver, was it?... He told me that he's okay. I asked if I could see him, but Silver was hesitant.

They finally let me see him, but something was wrong. Each time I looked at him, my heart broke. He was fine overall, but I knew him... He was close to me, but I had no idea who he was. Shadow, I think, he would look at me, and freeze. He seemed to be in pain each time he saw me. Was I the cause of this? Did... Did he try to kill himself?... How close were we.

Silver drove me home. I still had so many questions for him..

"Silver... How close was I to him?" Silver seemed to tense at this.

"You.... You guys were pretty close... You saved his life... And grew an attachment." Silver sighed, seeming scared to go on.

"I saved his life... how?" Silver stared at the road.

"You found him at the beach, injured and you brought him home. You patched him up, and he's been with you since." He shook his head, "I can't remember how long now."

"Oh wow..." I brushed my hand through my hair.

"Sonic... I honestly don't know if he's going to last any longer.." My heart dropped. "They said we could take him home, to spend his final days... There's nothing they can do to stop it."

I couldn't talk. The thought of hearing he's dying. It nearly broke me.

"There's gotta be something!" I nearly caused Silver to swerve off the road when I shouted. "We can't just let him die.." Silver pulled off to the side of the road and turned to me.

"Sonic, what can we do? The doctor can't save him, what do you think you can do? You can't even remember your own hus-!" Silver's voice continued to raise as he talked, he froze after he said that. "I-I mean friend."

"I-I..." His grip tighten on the wheel, shaking. "I-I know he wouldn't want us to give up on him..." I saw Silver freeze, as he stared at the wheel.

"H-He wants to go to the water..." Silver's eyes lighten up as he looked at me. "We have to take him to the ocean."

"What? Why?" Silver ignored me as he got back on the road, continuing to drive me home.

I was confused, what he meant with Shadow. We had to take him to the ocean? Why of all places, the ocean is where he wants to go? What was going on?

Silver told me to get the small pool filled with water in the house, as he was going to get Shadow. I was really confused at first as Tails helped me set things up. He got a bunch of towels, and laid them around. Tails tried to help me remember some things as we waited for Silver to get back. Some of it sounded familiar but I can't remember.

"Careful.. Shadow slowly..." Silver's voice came from the door, as he slowly helped Shadow walked. Shadow cringed every step he took, as Silver supported him up. "Slowly down." As Silver said that, Shadow fell to his knees, gripping his chest. Silver slowly helped him to help him lay down into the water.

I couldn't believe my eyes, as I watched Shadow's lower half turn into a tail. Any bandaged he had on, ripped away, the wounds kind of heal. He was breathing heavily, shaking. It hurt to see him in so much pain. 

"Sonic, come back." Tails chased after me, as I left the room.

"Tails, I can't do this. He's dying, and its my fault and and..." I know I was panicking too much, but it was my fault. Tails tried to calm me down as my breathing sped up.

"Whoa Sonic. Calm down... You know what happens whe-" I cut of Tails by crumpling down in pain. The sound of bones cracking filled the room as everything shifted. My whole body changed, growing bigger and covering in fur. Groaning in pain as it slowed down, finally stopping the transformation. "What am I going to do with you..." Tails sighed, gently touching my head. I huffed, not ready for this.

(Tails' POV)

Sonic groaned as he slowly stood, slowly walking with me. Shadow weakly looked over at us, smiling at Sonic. He looked so ill compared to the first time I've saw him. His skin was pale, dark bags, and almost no life in his eyes. Sonic slowly walk around him, gently laying behind him. Shadow sighed, resting on him. Even if Sonic didn't remember Shadow, I could still feel their connection. That said, we need to get him back to the ocean.

"I can try to get a boat, but I don't know how soon I can get it..." Signing, Silver stared at the ground. "But It will be today." Shadow cringed in pain, getting into a coughing fit. He was getting worse already, but nothing we could've done to slow this.

"Shadow... Go back home?" Shadow weakly said, looking up at me. He smiled once I nodded. "Thank you..."

"I'll watch these two while you get the boat. Just make sure we get it soon." Silver's face soften as he looked at Shadow. He was getting worse by the sec. He could only have a few hours left to live if we can't get him to the water... I'll have to hurry, and make some calls.

(Sonic's POV)

Tails came running into the room, smiling. Shadow groaned from being woken up, as Silver jump from the sudden noise.

"I got one, It'll be at the beach in ten." Tails panted, looking at me. He smiled lightly, and looked at Silver.

"Well, let's get him ready." Silver stood up, ready to head out now. But Shadow wasn't ready to move, they have to think about him! He was getting better from resting in the water, if they tried to move him now, it could hurt him even more. As they started to get stuff ready, I tried to move without waking Shadow. Shadow groaned, shifting off of me.

"Sonic.. I don't think" I growled at Tails as he started talking. He sighed. "How are we gonna get a wolf on a boat then?""We can put a collar on him... And clean him up... He'll just look like a big dog. The boat is big enough isn't it?" Silver scratched his head, as I wasn't about to put a collar on. As they were talking, I tried to slip away. Yipping, Silver grabbed me by the fur, pulling me back. "Look. Do you want to go with us or not." Silver said in a very monotone voice. I guess I had no other choice...
