Chapter Thirty Nine

Two Years Later

"Bucky?" Dani called and walked out with a beautiful tight red dress. I forgot how beautiful she was.

"Damn." I breathed and she smiled. "I need you to zip it up." She said and I brushed her hair off her back and zipped it up. I loved her soft skin under my fingers.

"Do you have the present?" She asked and put her hands on my chest. I grabbed her tiny warm tiny hands in mine.

"Yes dear." I said and she smirked. "Good, now the kids are with the sitter, we have everything?" She asked.

"Yes we have absolutely everything." I said and hugged her. I kissed her ear and she buried her head in the crook of my neck.

"I'm sorry it's just this is our first night out in such a long time, I feel weird, maybe we shouldn't go."

"We are not staying home, this is Steve's birthday! Let's go babe, you look hot. I feel like tonight is the night we make kid number four, the way you're dressed right now."

"Bucky!" She smiled and her cheeks turned pink. I love having that effect on her.

I kissed her forehead and handed her the gift.

"Let's go!" She said and we locked the door and left. Stark sent us a limo, and inside were glasses of champagne.

We arrived at the Avengers Tower and there were hundreds of cars parked outside. "We are never going to find Steve." I sighed and we walked in.

Everyone was having a great time, the music was pretty good, there was tons of food, everyone was laughing and drinking. It was crazy packed in here, Steve didn't even know this many people.

I looked at Dani and she had wondered off.

I found her in the hallway looking at framed photos. There were a lot with us and the team, there were some with us and the kids and some of each of the Avengers individually fighting off evil.

"Wow, about eight years ago we moved out of the tower, it's unbelievable." She said and I nodded. "Time flies." I said, "Do you miss it here?" She asked and I shrugged.

"I miss not seeing the team as much but I'd never trade anything, I love what I have." I said and she kissed me, then we walked back into the main hall.

Steve and Tony walked up to us and hugged us. "Happy Birthday, pal." I said and he smiled.

"I'm glad you two could make it, I know how much you hate being separated from the kids." Steve said and Dani smiled

"Anything for you, Steve. We both owe it to you." She said and Stark handed us drinks.

Before anyone said anything else, a red light started flashing and all the glass widows shattered. I instinctively grabbed Dani and pulled her closer to me.

Dani and I both snapped into action, it felt like we never left. I checked and it seemed all the windows were broken from a glitch, because no one could've shot out them at the same time.

The guests started screaming and panicking, they all started rushing out and I looked for any actual humans who were cashing this terror.

"Jarvis, what's going on?" Dani asked and Steve ran off with Tony to get a suit.

"System Shut Down. Restarting the 'Jarvis' program. Goodbye." He said and died, then all the electricity turned off.

"Call the kids." Dani said and I took out my phone and ran with her to where another set of our suits were.

She changed and I talked to the kids on the phone. We just wanted to make sure they were safe. They were watching a movie called 'Frozen', I've honestly never heard of it but I knew they would be singing songs from it for the next few months

Lucy was good at picking up when we were stressed. "What's wrong? Are you both okay?" She asked, she was seven and a half now, they both were but she was more advanced for her level.

"Mommy and Daddy are fine, nothing's wrong we just missed you both." I said and she sighed over the phone.

"Good, love you, tell mommy we love her too. Goodnight dad." She said and I smiled.

I almost blew it. "Goodnight, tell Sebastian I say bye as well dear." And with that she hung up.

Looks like whoever is going this doesn't want the kids, they want something more.

Dani was fully changed and she still fit into her suit.

"I missed this feeling." She laughed and I smiled. "Let's go!" I said and we sprinted down to the main hall where the glass windows had shattered and everyone was lying on the floor holding their hands up in surrender, well the ones who stayed.

Tony and Steve were already here, there seemed to be a man standing there with Loki's staff. I knew how dangerous it was.

"The last time that got into the wrong hands, we stopped them. You doubting we won't do it again?" Dani asked and he smirked. I hated how cocky she'd get with the enemies, she just pissed them off.

The man had scars all over his face and he was a pretty burly and tall man. He was wearing a shy of some sort to help him fly and protective gear.

"Loki didn't have what I have, the mind stones." He smirked and with that, jumped out of the side of the building.

Dani ran over and looked over but he was out of sight.

He was gone before anyone could do anything.

Dani looked at me with a panicked expression on her face. She had told me before what the mind stones are capable of...

What happens now? Will the Earth be destroyed? I stopped panicking. I needed to protect this earth for my family, it's my job.

"Call a meeting, every superhero you can find. And I mean every single damn one, we aren't letting Earth get destroyed. We don't stop until that man is stopped. Call in Thor. It's time we work for a living." I called and everyone took my orders.

Dani was zoned out and Steve and Stark were calling everyone. Natasha was helping people out and the rest of the team was still arriving.

It felt good to be back in the tower, and it felt good to be in charge for once.

I looked around and took out a picture of my family, I always had one in my wallet. It reminds me of what I have to protect. We were all smiling at the beach and Dani and I were smiling at each other, Steve was the one who took the picture.

This was what I was fighting for, this is what I had to lose now.

Before I only had to lose my mind, but now, I have a life and a family

And no one will take that away from me now, not even Hydra, or some blue clown with a couple of special rocks.

I am in control of my life, and nothing will change that.
