Chapter 8

The hotel room seemed awfully small with the six people occupying it. Ava, being the first one had taken one of the two beds and lay across it, making sure there was no room for anyone else. Aaron had come in next, and ignoring his sister's legs, had sat down at the edge of the bed she was laying on. The two hadn't spoken to each other, both a little pissed at the other for forcing them out in the rain yesterday.

Alex had been next, and the tension in the room had only heightened, as he plopped down on the floor, leaning against the wall. The silence in the room had been thick and the hostility level extreme high.

Then came Jennifer and Drew. Jennifer was wearing a big grin as she sat down on the other bed. Drew had looked happy, though a little less than Jennifer as he took the space beside her.

When Alex had asked for the reason behind the grin, Jennifer has just shaken her head, insisting they waited for Rebecca.

Lastly, Rebecca had come into the room, a small smile on her lips and her hair held back by the red rose the stranger at the pub had given her.

"What's with the rose?" Ava asked her in an accusing voice.

"It was a gift," Rebecca answered easily.

"From who?" This was Aaron.

"Some guy I met at the pub," she replied as she sat down next to Alex on the ground.

"You met a guy?" Alex asked.

Rebecca shot him a look, but nodded.

"Yeah... we were supposed to talk to people, you know," she said.

"Oh and here's your credit card," Rebecca said nonchalantly, reaching into her pocket and handed it over to Alex.

"You took my credit card?" Alex asked in disbelief.

"Yeah, this morning. I figured I couldn't go to a bar and not order anything," she replied.

"Did you buy drinks, with my credit card?" Alex questioned confused.

Mentally, he was trying to recount his morning to find out exactly when she had taken the card.

"It was only water, but yeah. Thanks, by the way," she said.

"Um... You're welcome...?" Alex replied, stuffing it down in his back pocket.

"Well, did you find anything?" Ava interrupted, anxious to know if she was the only one coming empty-handed.

"No, he said he'd had some bad experiences with the mythology and had recently decided to stop speaking about it to strangers. I also asked the bartender but he was definitely less than friendly," Rebecca told them, her expression turning sour.

Alex let out a sigh of relief.

"What?" Rebecca asked, being the only one who had heard him.

"I'm just glad someone else met someone not so pleasant. The girl working at the bakery was more than happy to share what she knew, but then her mother came in and said that they wouldn't answer any more questions I had about Mag Mell. It was weird," he explained.

"Same here," Aaron piped in. "The guy at the liquor store was more than happy to help until I mentioned Mag Mell. Then he closed off and refused to say any more."

"The guy at the tattoo parlor didn't know anything," Ava said, not mentioning that she hadn't exactly asked.

Jennifer glanced at Drew and her grin grew even wider. She was happy that they were the only ones who had found anything.
