Chapter 15
Drew was running. His feet hit the ground hard, but he barely noticed the small burst of pain each time his feet landed. He had a job to do. He needed to find Ava, leave a small trace for Jennifer, and then find whoever was watching over Ava, if she was innocent, something Drew doubted immensely.
If it hadn’t been for Jennifer, he would never have agreed to do this. He had never trusted either of the Bright siblings, and now when they had proved they were not trustworthy, and no one believed him when he said they were traitors.
Unbelievable, Drew thought, focusing on his feet as he ran as fast as he could. The sooner he got this over with, the sooner he could prove to the others that they were wrong. The thought made a glint of satisfaction spread through his body and form a sense of anticipation. He just needed to finish this.
He fastened his pace, sprinting down the path. Jennifer would only be a short minute behind him, and he needed to time to complete his part of this. At least that’s what he thought.
The path was a long one. He had been sprinting for fifteen minutes before he got to a fork in the road. Drew didn’t even slow down, just ran straight to the right. This hall was a short one, only six feet in length. Three open doorways led into different rooms, one on each side and one in front of him.
Drew stopped and took them in. Should he waste his time searching these rooms or should he go back to the left side? In a split second he decided it would be better to just take these rooms first.
He entered the one on the left first. It turned out to be an empty room. The walls were smooth stone, the floor clean of any garbage. Drew turned around quickly, choosing to search the room on the right. This one was almost the same, completely empty with the exception of a stone pillar in the middle of the room. It was waist height on him. A pentagram was carved in the rock. Drew walked out, deciding there was nothing interesting here.
The last room seemed like a normal office. The walls were smooth stone here too. In the middle was a wooden desk with a chair behind it. In one corner, the one on the right of the door, Drew spotted a train of black-reddish liquid.
Blood, it seemed.
Drew tried to cover a gag as he looked at it. The pool had definitely been there a long time, and – Drew feared- belonged to many different people. This was obviously a slaughter room.
With a grunt, he turned around and ran out of the hall. He ran down the left one and saw there was only one open entrance this way. He prayed he would find what he needed here.
And he was in luck. Sneaking forward, he glanced into the room. Soft murmurs were being exchanged between a man and a woman. Drew looked inside and saw the woman’s back head, her black hair hanging just over her shoulders. Beside her stood Aaron, his back to Drew as well.
They were both staring at a figure lying on the ground.
Drew sneaked in closer and saw with a burst of horror that it was Ava. Her hands and feet were tied, and she seemed to be unconscious. Drew had honestly believed she was on the other side, but this proved she had just wanted to help them – in her own way, of course – the whole time.
But Aaron… Aaron was obviously not with them. He had used them for information this entire time. Tried to get close to them so he could eventually end them one by one probably.
Drew seethed in anger. Without thinking about his actions he ran into the room, surprising both the conscious people in the room. He ran over and punched Aaron in the jaw. Aaron fell down to the ground, hitting his head against the stone floor and didn’t wake up.
