Chapter 3

Drew followed Jennifer out of the office. He chased her down the hallway, and caught up with her just as the elevator doors began to close. Drew put his hand in between the small gap. The doors opened for him and he stepped inside.

“Hey, Jennifer, is everything okay?” Drew asked her.

“Everything’s fine,” she answered.

Drew looked more closely at her. She looked completely fine. There were no signs of anger or hurt. She didn’t look upset. In fact she looked like nothing had happened, like she hadn’t exploded in front of them all just minutes ago.

“I’m just sick of being lied to. I want to get out of here,” she told him.

“That’s fine, we’ll go back to the car right now,” Drew assured her.

“Thanks,” Jennifer whispered with a small smile in his direction.

Drew put his arm around her to comfort her, even if just a bit. He knew she was upset and that she just didn’t want anyone to see it. He knew just how she felt. They all felt betrayed. But it had to be worse for her. Jennifer had been fighting with her father over Niall’s lies.

Drew knew that the two of them always had had a rocky relationship. With her father being so over-protective, it was easy to understand why. Jennifer had been sick of being watched every second of every day. Her father wanted to protect his little girl, and everything between them had just turned sour.

Drew didn’t know how to comfort her. So he simply decided to hold her and follow her straight back to the car.

“I’ll bet they’re up in the training rooms,” Rebecca said as her and Alex made their way inside the elevator. She pressed the correct button and they were on their way up to the fourth floor.

“What are you going to do, Rebecca?” Alex asked cautiously.

He wasn’t sure what she was capable of when she was like this. Her anger seemed to have died down, replaced by some sort of emptiness he hadn’t seen before. Alex knew she had never trusted Niall, so it wasn’t his betrayal she was angry about. On the other hand, she had always spoken high about her trainer, Melanie.

While the other three had always complained about theirs, Rebecca had gotten close to Melanie. Alex thought they had become close, almost like sisters. While he never really asked her about it, he was almost sure that it was her betrayal that stung the most.

“I’ll only ask them a few questions. If they fail to answer me, I’ll use a little fire to convince them to talk,” she answered calmly.

Alex shook his head as the elevator opened again. They stepped out into the common room. The first thing that met them was the mat they had been fighting against each other a few times. On it sat the four trainers.

“Just let me speak, Rebecca,” he warned her quietly.

They were sitting in a semi-circle. Alex recognized Shane first. He was sitting with his legs crossed, talking quietly with Cameron who were sitting at his left.

A wave of anger coursed through Alex as he saw his trainer. The two had never been close, and Alex always felt him unfairly treated. Although when he heard how Cameron had been, he couldn’t really feel bad for himself. Of it was one thing he wanted to know, it was why they had all been so cruel.

“Go away, Niall. I’m not in the mood right now,” the light voice of Valerie spoke up.

Neither of them looked up.
